Football Recruiting Notes for the UK Fans of the Day

Preseason football training camp has captured the full attention of Kentucky coaches and fans.  Before we get waist deep into player profiles, practice reports and the like, enjoy a few tidbits from the recruiting front.

1. Decision Dates Set

Before the week ends Kentucky could have another elite cornerback in the 2019 recruiting class.  On Thursday D.J. Daniel will choose between Kentucky, Georgia and South Carolina.  Daniel is considered the No. 5 JUCO prospect in America.

Kentucky’s recruitment of C.J. Boone will come to a close in about a month.  A three-star wide receiver from St. Louis, Boone will choose between Kentucky, Indiana, Mizzou, Purdue, Kansas and Minnesota on September 15, Boone’s birthday.

The Cats’ highest-ranked recruit in the 2019 class, Moses Douglass, could soon have a high school teammate join him.  Top 50 defensive tackle Isaiah Gibson will decide between Kentucky, Wisconsin, Purdue, Michigan State and Minnesota on September 19.

2. Cats are a Dark Horse for Four-Star Pass Rusher

Braylen Ingraham has an impressive list of finalists that includes Alabama, Oregon, Oklahoma, Florida and Miami.  One of the Top 25 defensive ends in America, Kentucky could sneak in and steal the South Florida prospect from the traditional powerhouses.  He told Rivals’ Woody Wommack that Kentucky has been there since day one.

“Eddie Gran is a great guy and I have three of my former teammates from Dillard that are already up there. They have stuck with me since the beginning, even when I was injured. They have been loyal and it means a lot. I can come in and help them change the program and it’s a chance to play in the SEC. When I was there we really talked about how I would fit in the defensive line and how I can make an impact and they have a good vision for me.”

One other thing to consider: the guy Ingraham faces everyday in practice at St. Thomas Aquinas, Jake Pope, is a Kentucky commit.

3. Whoa

One of Kentucky’s top in-state targets in the 2019 class, four-star defensive end J.J. Weaver, is making highlights before the high school season begins.  If you want to see Weaver play in person, the season kicks off Friday with Louisville Moore hosting Southern at 7:00 p.m.

4. Don’t Count Out Kentucky

There probably isn’t a bigger name on UK’s recruiting board than Wandale Robinson.  The Frankfort athlete exploded onto the recruiting scene this summer after exceptional camp performances.  The Cats were once the frontrunner, but after posing for plenty of pictures with Nick Saban at Alabama, many feared the Kentucky kid would follow in Damien Harris’ footsteps.

From afar, it looks like the Cats are a long shot to land Robinson.  However, the people around Kentucky’s program still feel good about where they stand with Wandale.  When he releases his commitment video, don’t be surprised if he’s rocking Kentucky blue.
