Before the UK Hoops team team tips-off tomorrow in their first game of the SEC Tournament, there are few things you should know.
UK Hoops has one SEC Tournament title
The last time Kentucky won the women’s SEC Basketball tournament was in 1982. The Cats defeated Tennessee 89-74 in front of a home crowd in Memorial Coliseum. The Tennessee Lady Vols have the most with 17 titles, Vanderbilt with six and Georgia and Auburn with four. I don’t know about you, but I think it’s time we get a second title.
UK Hoops will play LSU @ 2:30 on the SEC Network
Kentucky defeated LSU earlier this season, 70-58. Janee Thompson lead the team with 16 points and freshman Maci Morris added 14 of her own. With a win, they will advance to play Florida, Friday at 2:30.
The team did some community service
During their day off in Jacksonville the players and coached visited fourth and fifth graders at a local Jacksonville elementary school. The coaches, team and students participated in some stretching and exercise activities.
Evelyn Akhator was named one of NCCAW’s Starting Five this week
The junior’s play helped earn her one of NCAA’s five players of the week. Akhator helped lead her team to wins over No. 24 Missouri and No. 11 Texas A&M last week. Akhator had 15 points and nine rebounds against Missouri and 15 points and 18 rebounds on the road against Texas A&M. She recorded her third double-double of the season thanks to a career-high 10 offensive rebounds against A&M.
They enter the postseason on a win streak
The Cats are currently on a six-game winning streak in SEC play, including three wins against ranked opponents. Since Feb. 4, the Cats have beaten LSU, Vanderbilt, Mississippi State, Arkansas, Missouri and Texas A&M. They can’t afford to see this streak snapped anytime soon.
