    Movie bracket is GAH-bage!

Absolutely; why is Rocky (1976) in, and The Godfather (1972) is not?

    • bluetide
      12:05 pm May 1, 2017 Permalink

Rocky is in as a franchise bc of Rocky IV being in the 80’s. All the Godfathers were in the 70s.

It’s a lot like what we sometimes end up with in the NCAA tournament when the selection committee tries to play around and stack the brackets – and they end up with crappy matchups and teams that SHOULD be in the finals or the FF not getting there. We all know it well.

Well, Godfather III was in 1990, so shouldn’t the trilogy qualify? Using the same logic as the Rocky movies, anyway. Of course, the GOOD Godfather movies were both in the ’70’s, so that may have been a factor.

I can’t take this seriously now that The Departed got knocked out by Wolf of Wall Street. They were in my Final Four for sure.

Does Matt not know that there are only a few petroleum companies that supply gas stations? There are monopolies in almost every industry at this point.

    • RealCatsFan
      10:33 am May 1, 2017 Permalink

Yes, we folks who live in the Louisville market are all too familiar with the monopoly that Marathon Oil has on this area and they way they gouge us for an extra 25 cents per gallon because of the “refomulated” gas that causes your car to get worse mileage – insult to injury. 🙁

Matt is very smart and also knowledgeable about a few niche areas. Outside of those areas he is, much to his chagrin; Ryan.

Walmart doesn’t have their own petroleum company and neither does Kroger. They likely get their gas from the same supplier. BP owns/supplies many different gas chains.

80% of all glasses and sunglasses are made by the same parent company regardless of brand.

Professional sports are one thing; but, don’t like corporate commercialism in amateur sports. Goodyear Bowl, Capitol One Bowl……boo.

Agree C&M. That’s not long or awkward, so at least leave the original name in.

Why do we have to rename landmarks? At least, wait until they rename Fenway Park and Wrigley Field.

    • CATandMONKEY
      10:57 am May 1, 2017 Permalink

As I mentioned last week..rename Fenway and you will see riots that make the 1992 LA situation look like a Harry Potter book burning.

    • You do know that WRIGLEY Field is a corporate name, right? Ppl don’t think about that since that’s been the name for 200 years. I’m not saying you have to like Kroger Field (I’m in the camp that says it should have been Kroger’s CWS, but they don’t care what I think, obvs), but let’s be consistent with our arguments.

    • bluetide
      12:10 pm May 1, 2017 Permalink

Schindler’s List should not have been on the bracket. It’s not fair to that film or to any other film to compare it to them bc of the weight of its subject material.

  20. bluetide

I see Shawshank in the Final Four 3-1 then Rocky, Star Wars, and Forrest Gump all in on tiebreakers. Then Shawshank wins 3-1 to break Rocky’s heart before Star Wars has to unBELIEVABLY eke it out bc of a tiebreaker unless they get an “anti-geek” on the line to be an @hole.

Then Shawshank wins the day bc Star Wars never had a chance with this crew…. 😕

All movies in the bracket can either be bought or rented at your friendly neighborhood Kroger store….
