It was a poor shooting exhibition during an early-morning tipoff for the No. 14 Kentucky Wildcats, but they staved off a cold start to secure a 65-45 victory over the Florida Gators on the road earlier on Sunday.
Rhyne Howard poured in 22 points on 8-14 shooting to go along with six rebounds, one block, and two steals for the ‘Cats. Joining her in the double-digit scoring column were Sabrina Haines and Chasity Patterson. Patterson added a season-high 20 points on 7-14 shooting in addition to five rebounds, two assists and four steals while Haines dropped in 12 points on a 4-6 shooting clip.
Kentucky was able to overcome a poor shooting performance (22-70 for just 31.4 percent) thanks to a sizable advantage in the turnover battle. The Wildcats forced the Gators into 25 turnovers while coughing the ball up just six times themselves.
Without KeKe McKinney, who missed her second straight game with a migraine issue, Kentucky still managed to outrebound the Gators, 38-36.
With the win, the ‘Cats improve to 14-2 on the season and 3-1 in SEC play. We’ll be back shortly with a full game recap, but in the meantime, look over the final box score from the ladies third consecutive win.
