Trap game? Who said this would be a trap game?
Coming off its most impressive win of the season, the No. 14 Kentucky Wildcats (20-5) women’s basketball team dominated the Ole Miss Rebels (7-13) by a final score of 94-52 down in Oxford, MS.
The ‘Cats had recently taken down the No. 6 Mississippi State Bulldogs on Sunday in convincing fashion and have a matchup with No. 1 ranked South Carolina this coming Sunday. A road game against the SEC’s only winless inter-conference team could have been a recipe for a slight slip up. Fortunately, that was not the case.
Despite falling into an early 7-0 hole, the ladies quickly recovered to control the lead and blow the game wide open. After the first quarter, Kentucky led 18-10 and rode an 18-point lead into halftime.
In the second half, the offense started to click on all cylinders. UK shot over 60 from the floor in the final 20 minutes, including a 7-11 mark from three over that span. The Rebels turned the ball over 21 times on the night, which Kentucky converted into 31 points. Kentucky also won the rebounding battle, 40-26, marking the first time since Dec. 1 that they hauled in at least 40 boards.
Five players scored in double-figures for the ‘Cats; Rhyne Howard (21), Sabrina Haines (15), Chasity Patterson (15), Jaida Roper (10), and Blair Green (10). Kentucky shot 50 percent from the field on the night and made nearly 48 percent of its shots from outside the perimeter.
I’ll be back shortly with a full game recap, but in the meantime, you can read over the full game box score below.
