Facebook’s Thursday Morning Wakeup

Happy Birthday, Facebook!
Today, everyone’s favorite/least favorite website turns twelve years young! Can you believe it’s been that long? Seems like just yesterday we were signing up while not paying attention in Econ so we could stalk that person we met at Two Keys the night before. Soon after that, we were getting friend requests from aunts and uncles and former fifth grade teachers, wondering what happened to the little website we used to post Spring Break pictures that could potentially get us fired and kicked out of school.
Now, Facebook is the worst thing about the internet and it has been twelve long years of statuses, comments and using old profile pictures from when we were skinnier. What a run it has been.
If you missed it a few months ago, I wrote about why I Hate Facebook. Let’s revisit that today instead of cutting cake and exchanging gifts and seeing an entire timeline of Facebook birthday posts, which I assume will be waiting for me when I log on after writing your Morning Wakeup.
To the goods…
Mark Stoops believes his new recruiting class is his best at Kentucky.
Though the rankings say otherwise, Stoops likes his 2016 class over any other group, he said yesterday in his Signing Day press conference:
I definitely do. I believe so. I feel that way. I don’t know where the numbers stack up. I don’t really care. From my point of view, absolutely top to bottom, I feel like it’s the most solid group. I feel like there’s elite talent in this group and I feel like there’s great glue, there’s great players, great program guys. There’s guys that you can develop, guys you that can play right away, there’s impact guys, there’s guys that can change the scoreboard, guys that can get difficult yards in the run game, the big uglies you want. I think there’s a nice combination of guys in this group, I definitely do.
Vince Marrow said it’s right up there with the 2014 class, which was the best in school history at No. 17 in the Rivals.com rankings.
The class is ranked No. 29 on Rivals, No. 34 on 247 Sports and No. 35 on ESPN Recruiting.
Alabama is the top-ranked class in all three ranking systems. Shocker.
Here’s how the SEC looks, according to Rivals:
1. Alabama (1)
2. LSU (6)
3. Ole Miss (7)
4. Auburn (9)
5. Georgia (10)
6. Florida (14)
7. Tennessee (15)
8. Texas A&M (16)
9. South Carolina (26)
10. Kentucky (29)
11. Arkansas (32)
12. Mississippi State (36)
13. Missouri (53)
14. Vanderbilt (59)
Slowly climbing up the pack!

“I got booed more than anyone in the history of this university.”
That’s gotta count for something, right?
Coach Cal still believes his team can do something special.
On last night’s call-in show, John Calipari told his listeners, “We could do something special this year, IF they choose to… I still believe in my team. I look around the country and say, ‘We can play with anybody.’ I’ve said this all year, ‘We can beat anybody in the country, or lose to anybody in the country.’ You either fight, and play to win or you’re gonna lose. It’s really, really simple.”
Arkansas played Florida tight last night in Gainesville.
Kentucky’s next opponent managed to escape with a win on its home floor last night, but not without a fight from the visiting Razorbacks. Florida needed double-figure scoring from all five of its starters, including 22 from Dorian Finney-Smith and 17 from Chris Chiozza, to earn a four-point victory against Arkansas.
The win moved Florida into a three-way tie for third place in the SEC with Kentucky and South Carolina. We’re getting to the point in the season where we need to start considering what seed the Cats can end up with in Nashville for the conference tournament. This is not a year where we can expect the team to show up at noon on Friday as the team’s No. 1 seed and skate on through.
I’ve laughed at this Transformers video for going on three days now.
So we’ll end with it here.

Shame on you for laughing at someone’s misfortune. You’ll be old and unsteady one day. I hope you won’t be starring in your own face plant video.
What’s the matter with you dude? That woman probably destroyed her shoulder.
This video is educational in that regard:
1. Don’t be fat
2. Don’t fall down
Anybody who would find that video funny is an asshole. Period.
Dammit, Drew, you’ve offended all the Republicans.
Wrong. I’m a Republican and still laughing my butt off. Usually it’s the butthurt liberals that are so easily offended. Good try though.
I’m neither. I just think its funny to read the hypocrisy. I guess you’re an anomaly around here.
It always cracks me up when people say they hate Facebook.
Guess what, your Facebook experience is an exclusive reflection of YOUR friends, therefore essentially a reflection of you. If your Facebook feed is filled with @ssholes, well you’re probably an @sshole too.
The number of accidents caused by tailgaters is evidence that assholes are plentiful in our society. Certain political campaigns are also evidence that there are literally legions of assholes out there. 🙂
It’s just Drew showing he’s 30-something going on 14.
yeah, what a drewfus… actually, that lack of empathy in a “30-something” seems a little more serious than that. not only does he laugh at what is possibly a serious injury to someone else, he posts it thinking that we will think it is hilarious. and posting it wasn’t some spur of the moment thing. he’s had three days to rethink it.
there is a headline in the right hand column on this page that i am sure he has been snickering at all day: “woman burned…”
drewfus…good one…if you’re a dork. #fail
I hate Facebook because it’s a horrible idea when you let a corporation (or a government for that matter) determine what are acceptable opinions for a BILLION people. No one should ever have that much power.
That’s as dishonest a statement as I am likely to read all day! Knocked it out early.
I had an obese friend take a similar fall. He completely crushed his arm, had to have reconstructive surgery, and was out of work for a very long time. I hope that you have confirmed that the woman was okay. Otherwise, you might be sharing a video of someone’s life being permanently altered for the worse.
You must have HATED America’s Funniest Home Videos.
Not cool Drew.
And about football recruiting the great football minds in charge managed to recruit the worst group in the SEC. Congrats Mark and company.
And in which alternate reality did that happen?
Are you talking about Arkansas, Mississippi State, Missouri, or Vanderbilt???
Not sure what this has to do with UK and Stoops…???
My math comprehension isn’t the best, but I think 10th is better than 14th. Besides, I’ll take 29th out of 128 FBS schools any day.
Down goes Frazier. Lol. That was a hard hit.
I find it ironic that one would complain about facebook in the same article as he put a standard facebook video.
