After an impressive week in SEC play, Evelyn Akhator earned her third SEC Player of the Week honor of the 2016-17 season.
Against Alabama, Akhator posted a career-high 29 points and 15 rebounds. She followed that performance with 24 points and a season-high 16 rebounds against Georgia to lead Kentucky to their second consecutive victory. She shot a staggering 75.8 percent from the field in the two games.
In the history of the Kentucky women’s basketball program, only one other player has recorded back-to-back games with 24+ points and 15+ rebounds: the school’s all-time leading scorer, Valerie Still.
Akhator wasn’t the only woman in the UK athletic department to receive SEC weekly honors. Gymnast Mollie Korth was named SEC Freshman of the Week following an all-around victory.
