ESPN breaks down UK’s 2017 wish list before a busy recruiting period

The Peach Jam starts tomorrow, which means John Calipari and his staff will head to North Augusta, South Carolina to straddle the courts and survey the best of the best in the 2017 and 2018 recruiting classes. ESPN’s Jeff Borzello has a nice breakdown of who Kentucky could be prioritizing this week which is worth a few minutes of your time this afternoon:

“The recruiting pecking order over the last three years has been Duke and Kentucky, and then everyone else several levels below. That doesn’t look to be changing anytime soon, and Krzyzewski and Calipari both enter the 2017 recruiting cycle needing potentially big classes to replace what is likely going to be a long list of early entries in the NBA draft,” Borzello writes. “Duke has been working on three players longer than most: Carter, Bamba and No. 1 shooting guard Gary Trent Jr. (No. 9). Trent and Carter have been discussed as a package deal on multiple occasions, which only helps Duke. Rounding out the top group of priorities is Kevin Knox (No. 7), who is also considering North Carolina, Kentucky and Florida State. Like Duke, Kentucky is looking to load up at each position. Hamidou Diallo (No. 12) and John Petty (No. 17) are the top targets on the wings, with Jarred Vanderbilt (No. 20) also in the mix. Nick Richards (No. 8) is among the priorities inside. The Wildcats are also in the mix for each of Duke’s top targets, as well.”

Add in Trae Young, who Borzello says remains Calipari’s top priority at point guard, and you’ve got a very busy week for the coaching staff. Thankfully, Nick Roush will be there to cover it all for us starting tomorrow. Something tells me he may make a peach jam pun or two. (Love you, Nick!)

Is it me or does Petty look like Fox? I thought KSR put the wrong picture up.

Has anybody noticed that Coach Sha-shewski is getting the real college studs and Cal is getting the guys with the most pro-potential? It’s hard to argue that his current class of Giles, Tatum, Jackson are difference makers. I just hope that Monk, Fox, and Adebayo are as good. Watching the all star games, though, I feel that Duke got the better recruits.

If Giles was fully healthy, he would be the prize of the class, but he will probably be in the NBA before he is ever 100% again.

I’d say we’ll ne more athletic, and have three players that I would take to run the point and be distributors over any of their guards.
Did you watch the Jordan classic?
I have a feeling UK will be just fine.
