Emmanuel Mudiay Picks SMU

Emmanuel Mudiay, the third ranked recruit for the class of 2014 from Texas chose Southern Methodist University tonight at the Under Armour Elite 24 game. Kentucky was thought to be the front runner for the highly touted point guard, but after taking five visits in the past few months to legendary Larry Brown’s Mustang team, Mudiay had a change of heart and will not be wearing the blue and white next year.

So is Ulis now the top target? Any chance we could snag Tyus Jones? Is there any chance we push for Quentin Snider? Thoughts? Good luck to him at SMU, rather him go there than a team that would be a threat. I still feel we will land a quality class.

Kentucky isn’t for everyone. Have fun with the 4k fans they have. I think the cal mistique may be wearing thin nationally. They can use Anthony Bennett going # 1 this year against the blue. I would not trade cal, for anyone out side of Jesus Christ himself.

Unless his brother has a different last name there is no Mudiay listed on their roster from last year. I smell a we’ll take your brother even though he is not a D-1 talent just to get you type of deal. Guarantee Cal would not waste a scholly on his brother just to land him. Probably only way his brother could go to college.

I think we’ve gotten very used to business minded 18-year-olds. This decision sounds like a typical high school kid deciding where to spend four years of college, not the high profile decisions we are used to. Even Wiggins’s decision makes some fiscal sense. It sounds a bit like Mudiay wants a degree and isn’t ready to leave home, like many high school kids. Not to say that he couldn’t make the NBA after a year from SMU, but it definitely doesn’t sound like his number one priority in making this decision, otherwise he’d have at least visited the big schools before choosing.

  44. Linda Taylor

Mudiay’s decision makes no sense to anyone except Mudiay. Fans communicating, especially by phone, to prospects after they have chosen another school can do nothing but irritate them and alienate them even more.
