Yesterday was a good day to be a fan of Kentucky’s two basketball teams. First, the women came back from a large deficit to defeat seventh-ranked Louisville in Louisville. Then the men poured it on an outmatched Eastern Kentucky team in Rupp Arena in the nightcap.

Tune in to KSR this morning to hear a recap of the weekend and what to expect in the week ahead.

More great wins over the weekend! Also a plus with the women’s team beating UL is priceless.

The comeback in the women’s game was incredible.
Texas contest showed that we are still really good but can’t afford to neglect any aspect of our game. We are still, incredibly, “a work in progress.”

The EKU game was a lot of fun to watch from a dunk/alley-oop perspective. We should take UNC by 16+

You’re right about the comeback in the women’s game being incredible. I was there, and to watch it live was more incredible than just hearing “they came back from 16 down.” The refs were letting Louisville slap our girls around, literally. I saw them slap someone in the face, and I also saw them throw one of our girls down on top of her head. Very physical game by both teams, but the dirty birds were dirty as hell yesterday.

Kenpom now has UK up to a 6.5% chance to go undefeated, and a 16.9% chance to go undefeated in the SEC.

The 3-point record absolutely matters. Why would you ever want to be the team that failed to hit one 3-pointer in a game? That’s just embarrassing.

  6. Rixter
    10:18 am December 8, 2014 Permalink

You can’t really say the streak survived Eddie Sutton, as he was our coach the last time we didn’t hit a 3. We were 0 – 2 that game, Sean Sutton missed one and Chris Mills missed one.

The 3-point streak is the ONLY suspense left in the games.

Maybe they are missing on purpose so fans watch until the end 😉

I don’t get the belief that this team “is so unbelievably talented.” We are not overloaded with transcendent talent, but have a team full of good players. In my opinion, that’s why this platoon system can work and the guys can play together without selfishness.

By percentage, do you think Marcus Lee has more dunks per made number of field goal attempts than any player in UK history?

It seems every shot he makes is a dunk.

In regards to worrying about the 3’s …. Some Wildcat fans just want to worry about something and try to be a “coach” …. just enjoy the game and let CAL take care of the coaching.

      10:33 am December 8, 2014 Permalink

That wouldn’t be any fun for a lot of people. That is the main reason so many of us Kentuckians love basketball. We know the game inside and out, and love coaching from our armchair. It simply allows us to enjoy the game more. It’s been going on since the beginning of UK basketball, and will continue until the end of time.

Last time UofL went to the Final Four they lost by 33 to UConn.

Time before that they lost by 22 to UConn in the Final Four.

I’d rather beat UofL than lost by 20+ in the Final Four.

Regarding the fact that this is the “best defensive team in modern history.”

This team is currently holding teams to 27% field goal shooting.
    http://www.teamrankings.com/ncaa-basketball/stat/opponent-shooting-pct

According to that site, since 1998, the best defensive FG% for an entire season is 36%.

UK is nearly 10 percentage points better than the next best team in the past 15 years. This number will normalize a bit once conference play starts but I dont see it coming up 10 points.

He’s protecting his job. If he says Roy has to resign, he’ll get destroyed back home and will never get another question in during a post game presser. He might even lose his UNC credentials. UNC isn’t too far away from UL when it comes to dominating their media outlets.

  34. Delk for 3

Aaron shot 35.6% last season, and Andrew shot 35.1%. Andrew didn’t even shoot enough threes for his percentage to qualify for listing among national statistic leaders, either. You can’t say that someone who barely shoots is the best shooter on the team. In fact, Jarrod Polson was the teams’ leader in 3 pt.% last season with 36%, but we know he wasn’t the best shooter.
