Duke Takes No. 1 Recruiting Class Ranking From Kentucky

This morning John Calipari woke up with the nation’s No. 1 recruiting class. This afternoon Coach K snatched away that title.

A day after extending a scholarship offer to Jaemyn Brakefield, the 6’8″ wing from Huntington Prep committed to the Blue Devils. A four-star recruit ranked by 247 Sports as the No. 38 player in the class, he is the fifth player to commit to Duke in the 2020 class, joining Jalen Johnson, Jeremy Roach, DJ Steward and Henry Coleman.

Now with one more commitment than Kentucky, the addition of Brakefield was enough for Duke to leap frog the Cats in the 247 Sports rankings. The move doesn’t help Chris Mack either. One of UofL’s top targets, Brakefield just visited Louisville’s campus last week. Mojito Mack and his leather jacket must not have been as cool as this guy:

Mike Kryzxshooouuxjzxzskiiii has the top spot now, but it could change rather quickly. This weekend John Calipari is hosting Devin Askew, the second-ranked combo guard in the 2021 class, for an official visit. Askew has tentative plans to make a decision before the end of the month. If all goes well this weekend and the scorer from California chooses Kentucky over Louisville, he could reclassify and move Kentucky back where they belong at the No. 1 spot.

Coach K needs fangs in that pic and would be an immediate poster child for any “Vampire movie” this Halloween season.

Usually #1 recruiting classes never win titles. So I’m ok with this.

I’m not worried about this class at all. Johnson can play but he seems like he’s sweet. Roach is coming off a knee injury but can play. Steward can score. Brakefield and Coleman are just guys to me.

At the end of the day it doesn’t really matter about their rankings coming out of high school. At dUKe, they’ll have offensive freedom to do whatever they want, won’t defend, have a one seed regardless of record, and get bounced in the sweet 16. Then they’ll all declare, go lower than their projected draft position coming out of high school, be slightly above average in the NBA, and have no ties to their university after leaving. Then next year K will repeat the same cycle over again.

      But you know, the Brotherhood

According to ZionSPN dUKe had the greatest recruiting class in history last season and we saw how that turned out.

Don’t forget Zion was the best freshman ever. And he’s automatically a top player in the NBA, too.

(Funny how there was about 1 article pointing out K failed with his unprecedented class before everyone forgot they choked and went back to praising K and Zion.)

Oh yeah, they can’t possibly expose K as a failure with the greatest player and class of all time. Good point Han.

A majority of people prefer hamburgers over tacos. That doesn’t mean hamburgers are better than tacos.

I just noticed the dUKe Twitter account using the hashtag #NextUp. I wonder where they got that idea? CATS

This kid wanted an offer so badly. I wonder why Cal never did? And now he’s a Dukie.

Probably figured he just wanted us as a hat on the table.

Cause we have Ware & Fletcher. Don’t need him. When Cal doesn’t pursue or offer, as we’ve seen, there is usually a reason. The reason here is that he thinks he has better options.

Let’s add Kuminga, 1 of Askew/Cunningham, and a big man or 2 and call it a day..

The most important thing is filling your needs. Rivals for example will instantly elevate every Duke player, about ten spots, and drop Cals kids even more.

Probably would still be #1 if they didn’t have Clarke criminally underrated. Oh well this happens every year

K hasnt had an original thought during his coaching tenure. He’s a hateful and spiteful little man, as evidenced by the poor sportsmanship displayed by those that have played for him over the decades. If his program was a public school, if the media and NCAA hadnt crawled up his butt long ago, if the committee didnt give them the unearned overall one seed several times in tournamemts, and if the refs didnt hand him victories on a yearly basis, we wouldn’t even know his name.

How many times has Askew said he wouldn’t reclassify? Didn’t he say it at least 2x recently?

A lot of guys say that so they can play in the big summer tournaments. When the tournaments are over, they turn in their paperwork and boom, reclassified!

Honestly I don’t care about being the #1 class as long as Cal is getting the guys ge wants and the guys who truly want to be here, I’m good with it. We all saw what happened to Duke last year.

Seems like the more highly ranked freshmen duke has, the quicker they get beat in the dance!
