Duke dropped exactly ZERO spots in the NET Rankings

(Photo: @WakeBasketball)

I hope Coach K didn’t hurt his back falling so far in the NET rankings this morning. Duke dropped from sixth all the way down to sixth in the new update following an inexcusable loss at Wake Forest for the Blue Devils. Wake Forest was 11-15, ranked 14th in the ACC, ranked No. 103 in the NET, and down nine with 75 seconds left in the game, yet Duke somehow managed to lose. By 12.

A person of sound mind would expect Duke to fall with such a bad defeat, but all logic and reason goes out the window when the NCAA is involved.

Meanwhile, Kentucky moved up to No. 19 with its Tuesday night win.

Cancel the NET forever.

duke should move to a #1 seed with that loss now.

Exactly what I was thinking. One more loss and they’ll cement their number 1 overall spot in the tournament. And, the NCAA will be moving all of Puke’s games to Cameron Indoor because Coronavirus fears

And there you have it – indisputable evidence that the NET rankings, and the NCAA, are a complete crock of fecal matter. I thought the NET rankings were supposed to be based on a computer algorithm to take the human element out of it. Doesn’t sound like it. Wow, what a surprise!

it is based on a algorithm. It’s just one of the functions is to halve the damage of a loss for duke and double the gain from a win.

And why in the hell is an 8-loss Arizona team ranked 7th??

Because they have wins in which they won by double digits. If we had won almost every game we have this season by double digits we would be ranked in the top ten of the NET despite the lost to both Evansville and Utah.

The NET caps winning margins at 10.

In the code they wrote for the computer program to figure out the net, they must have a waiver for duke. It’s like the ncaa doesn’t even try to hide their bias.

Unreal. Just like Arizona is ranked 7 and Michigan St is 12. You know that the NCAA will conveniently lean on the NET when seeding Duke and sending them to Greensboro and NYC.

Unreal. The NCAA will gift them a #1 seed in a friendly region yet. I hope they lose a couple more, just to make it more transparent when Selection Sunday arrives.

Dook often loses and only moves up one instead of the planned jump to #1 Because They Are Dook!

People place their faith in “computer algorithms” because they think it’s some kind of science, something that takes the human element out of the equation, as RealCats says. But human beings design them. And we can design them badly. Just consider the changes we’ve seen over the years in the way we rank teams. What do those changes tell you? That we’re not very good at this kind of thing. We have to keep changing the system because we keep seeing errors in our most recent attempts. Maybe a crowd-sourced opinion poll like the AP is as good as anything we can try to describe with equations.

Just like the BCS and that eventually came to an end. Common sense should win out in these things.

I dont get it. They say the SEC is weak but so is the ACC. If we win Saturday and are not ranked ahead of them, it shows just how ridiculous the bias towards Duke is. Two road losses in two weeks to bad team, especially Wake.

    And bias

Shows we’re spending money in the wrong places.

The lengths the NCAA goes to to keep the SEC and UK down are pretty amazing. They quietly elevated the WCC and MWC to take the place of the PAC2, so they are (combined) suddenly the West Coast ACC. They use the Big10 to hammer UK for and in the tournament, unless they beat them in the regular season, in which case their wins against higher ranked B¹G opponents are discarded. They elevate the ACC as long as they can beat us in the regular season, otherwise the head to head matchups are discarded.

The networks work hand in hand with the Czar to build up every SEC team with a shot at beating us each year, until they don’t and they plummet in the rankings/brackets, hoping you’ll forget how great ESPN and the rest said they were.

NCAA money goes towards making sure we don’t win titles. They send biased refs to our biggest games and put us as far from our fans as possible every tournament. They almost always find the toughest matchups for us and virtual home games for our opponents, rather than setting up the bracket SOLELY on seeding (as a legitimate tournament would be). Let’s not forget the number of overall 1 seeds and preferred placement that we’ve seen be given to teams that shouldn’t have received it.

It’s also a Bigoted organization that hates the program for integrating the SEC.

I was only half-joking last night when I said they would move up to #5 and a 1 seed for taking it to overtime.

I hate Duke with a passion but come on, it’s a computer. You can say that the algorithm or whatever needs to be changed, but it’s not somehow favoring Duke. We play in the lowest ranked power conference (#6 in pretty much every ranking), and we just can’t get a double digit victory. The net assigns more points for a blowout (capped at 10) and other teams beat some teams by a lot.

Duke just lost by 12 to an unranked team with a losing record overall and in conference.

We beat A&M by 9. If the metrics are capped at 10 points, should 1 point really matter more than 10%?

I hate to keep beating a dead horse but a friend just sent me an article from ESPoN with the headline “Duke stunned again,” which I find hilarious since they only use the word “stunned” when it is in reference to a Duke loss.

FUCH dUKe. let’s ignore they had the worst loss in the last 40 yrs. for a ranked team to an unranked team. let’s also forget the loss to wake who has a losing record. Their not even leading their own conf. but yet their being considered a 2 seed REALLY? let’s not forget the NCAA forgiving dUKe for playing an ineligible player in the 1999 final 4 ( Cory Maggette ) because coach k was unaware he was an ineligible player therefore we will forgive & forget. Then there was Lance Thomas & his $100,000 purchase of jewelry as a senior at dUKe that the NCAA said OH well we don’t care how got a loan or came up with that amount of cash.let’s also not forget to mention all the flops & other calls the refs have let dUKe with.
