Drew Barker and Matt Elam finalists for Kentucky Mr. Football

BarkerElam

Congrats to Drew Barker and Matt Elam, who were named finalists for Kentucky’s Mr. Football award, along with Scott County’s Scott Daniel and Bowling Green’s Nacarius Fant.

By now, you know all about Barker, who will enroll early at UK and wrote about his senior season for KSR. He finished the year with 2,702 yards and 34 touchdowns passing, and 849 yards and nine touchdowns rushing. Over his high school career, he threw 6,264 yards and 62 touchdowns, and 3,931 yards and 51 touchdowns rushing. He was recently named 5A player of the year by the Kentucky Football Coaches Association.

Elam, Kentucky’s top remaining target in the 2014 class, is down to the Cats and Alabama. He won the Paul Hornung Award as the outstanding senior player in Kentucky. We’ll finally find out his decision on January 4th at the Army All-American Bowl.

The winner will be announced next week.

    Nacarius Fant should win it.

But Barker will only because he’s going to UK

I wish UK had signed Fant instead of one of the several out-of-state slot receivers.
That said, I think Barker will win, only because he has signed with UK and Elam hasn’t…yet.

I’ve watched Fant play a couple times this year, and once was when he was down here in Chattanooga playing against McCallie. He is a very tough cover and elusive once the ball is in his hands, but if the ball is not coming to him, he does not finish his routes or even attempt to block anyone. He’ll probably put up big numbers in college, but seems to not be a great team player. Maybe I’m way off. George Fant, his brother that plays basketball for WKU is the exact opposite, so I guess there is hope for him.

What about Lawson Page from Collins high? 4A player of the year and probably one of the most underrated players in the state… He also got the nod from scout.com for Mr. KY football….

Getting the nod from scout is like having to take the ugly girl to the prom.

I keep seeing this but have not seeing an answer for it….Why is Elam only a 3 Star on Rivals??? I know there is little diff between sites, but a 3 star to a 5? What gives?

Did Elam remove Notre Dame from his list or is he just likely not going there?

Fant led his team to a state championship! PERIOD
    Great players get it done!
The committee has to weigh in on what players did in the playoffs!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don’t think Fant “lead” that team. Tisdale IMO was more of a contributor than Fant. Tisdale scored more points than Fant and the QB Hayes was just as big a contributor. Fant didn’t do it by himself. Also had Elam played in the John Hardin/ BG game we may not even be talking about a BG championship.

    #InState !

I hope that UK stays after 2015 QB Elijah Sindelar from Caldwell County.
    Great kid, Great Attitude!

Elijah has thrown for 9,028 yards and 95 scores. He will go into his senior season needing 39 touchdown passes to break the state career record of 133 shared by Tim Couch!

@ToddGriffin100 sent me Elijah had 30 points and 18 rebounds in win over Union County.

Give it to Barker. Elam is just toying with UK and will probably end up elsewhere.
