Dontaie Allen gets offer from Florida; is Kentucky next?

Twitter | @MustangsMatts

Dontaie Allen’s stock continues to rise. Earlier today at the Under Armour Challenge in Atlanta, the Pendleton County star put up 33 points, 7 assists, and 5 rebounds, which was enough to earn an offer from Florida.

Allen now has offers from 18 schools, including Florida, Vanderbilt, West Virginia, and Virginia Tech, but still doesn’t have one from his home state school, Kentucky. We’re hearing that could change very soon.

UK assistant Tony Barbee watched Allen put up 21 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists last night and KSR has learned he also watched his 33-point performance this morning. According to TJ, an offer from Kentucky may be imminent; that’s a very good thing because, with offers from programs like Florida rolling in and coaches like Mike Krzyzewski and Tom Izzo watching in the stands, John Calipari might not be able to afford waiting much longer to throw his hat in the ring.

Let’s keep this Kentucky boy at home.

As we learned from Kyky Tandy in state does not equal a good fit for many possible reasons. UK doesn’t have to offer just because other schools do. No one is perfect but I trust Calipari’s choices.

Time for people to stop viewing him as a 4 year Kentucky kid. He’s easily a top 100 recruit, maybe higher. He’s just been waiting for the right people to see him play.

It’s not important to have a ky kid in each class. You wouldn’t be able to get who you wanted/ needed if that were the case. It’s only smart to take a ky kid if they are good enough or if they can develop into solid role players to complement our terrific freshman.

If he comes to UK, he won’t develop into a solid role player. He’s got the talent to compete day one. I get that most people haven’t actually seen him play, but “blue blood” offers are coming soon.

Illinois and Pitt just offered him tonight as well. I would love to hear Coach Barbee’s thoughts on the young man. I think an offer will come, for this kid is showing that he can straight up play ball.
