Do You Want to See Kentucky Play in a Preseason Tournament?

With all the preseason tournaments starting right now, it makes me question if I enjoy Kentucky’s schedule more the way it is now or if they entered a notable tournament. It’s been since the 2011-12 season when Kentucky played in the Hall of Fame Classic against Penn State and Old Dominion since its played in an elimination style preseason tournament. A year before that the Wildcats played in the Maui Invitational, losing in the finals to UConn.

Personally, I’d love to see Kentucky get rid of some of these games against the likes of South Florida, NJIT and Albany and move to a tournament one out of every three years. It gives Wildcats fans a reason to travel (give us the Battle 4 Atlantis) and prepares Kentucky for NCAA Tournament play at the same time.

So, what do you guys think? Want to see more preseason tournaments for Kentucky or leave the schedule alone? If so, what tournaments?

Let’s go back to Maui! I love when kentucky plays in tournaments! It’s such a challenge and really shows u what the teams play like on the brink of elimination, just a great teaching tool

No, not really. Pre season tourneys are overrated and take away games from Rupp.

No to the tournaments. Yankees are Northern by definition, please change that profile. It sounds dumb.

While you’re at it, get a new Twitter handle because uklefty22 should be Lorenzen or no one.

Also, I’d like to go to Maui but it’s pointless for UK to go. The annual games UK is in with the Champions Classic & CBS Classic is a better setup and better games.

Agreed, besides why bring some negative comments toward you that wouldn’t otherwise happen. I say no to tournaments as well. There are many, many fans living in KY that never get to attend games unless they can purchase game time tickets on the cheap for Rupp so keep giving them the opportunity.

Point of clarification. Other nationalities may consider all Americans “yankees”; therefore the Northern designation is irrelevant. People from the United States know that Yankees are from the North, therefore the Northern is redundant.

We aren’t playing NJIT and Albany instead of going to Maui. If we went to one of the preseason tournaments it would take the place of games like UCLA, Kansas, Arizona State. As long as we have a schedule of good opponents, I really don’t care of we’re in one of the tournaments.

  6. Bring back the UKIT!!!

Since UK played back on back days earlier this year, they might as well. Go Cats

UK replaced those pre season tourneys with the champions classic. we had already scheduled the penn state year when we signed the first year of the champions classic, hence the overlap. but once we had a long term deal with the champions classic, we no longer needed to do a preseason tourney. i wonder what they’ll do after next year when the champions classic v2 ends. will they renew that series again or start a new one?

I love the preseason tournaments, but Cal made it very clear early on he is very opposed to preseason tournaments. Cal wants an early season schedule full of home games and neutral site games at big “final four” style arenas. Its twofold, A) UK makes more money when a 30,000 seat stadium fills up and its split between 2 teams, and B) in theory it prepares UK for the tournament atmosphere. I love the maui invitational, puerto rico shoot, I loved the alaska shootout when it was big in the late 90’s and early 2000’s, but I sort of see his point. While its a cool spot to be. Playing in a stadium with 800 fans really doesn’t prepare a team for the NCAA tournament.

Plus as others have mentioned it would basically take the place of a big name game. And since the tournaments are an elimination format you are not gauranteed to play the big boy placed across the bracket from you. Might as well book a Kansas or UNC instead of having a 70% chance of playing a Kansas or UNC in a tourney.

I love em… would want to see them. But it ain’t happening while Cal’s around. And I’m ok with that. We play one of the best non-conference schedules every year.

Play the toughest possible schedule every year – tournaments or otherwise…

Rid the schedule of the popcorn states and cupcakes Cal insists on every year…

I’m sure it will never happen because it’s during the week of Christmas and I doubt the payout is worth it but I’d LOVE to play in the Diamond Head Classic in Honolulu. An SEC school represents every year (Auburn this year) plus the Stan Sheriff Center holds 12,000+ and no doubt UK fans would fill that place up. Way better venue compared to the high school gym in Maui. Mele Kalikimaka!
