Dirk’s brother wants Sunday Morning Links

(This picture has made me laugh all week…)

Sunday mornings are always better following a win. Thanks to strong performances from Willie Cauley-Stein, Andrew Harrison and Alex Poythress…Kentucky walked away from Nashville with a solid road win in the SEC. Never a bad thing, never a bad thing. Let’s take a look at some links to get your morning started…

—- John Calipari said that the practice yesterday leading into today’s game with Vandy was one of the best this Kentucky team has had. Calipari felt like his team was prepared to win the game, and even told his team exactly that.

—- Kentucky will face one of its toughest road games of the season on Tuesday when they travel to Arkansas. Arkansas saw its impressive 23-game home win streak snapped yesterday against #10 Florida.

—- The college football coaching carousel has been in full swing over the past week. The SEC saw a number of intriguing changes, including the move out of the conference of one of the bright young coaching stars. James Franklin took the head coaching job at Penn State, leaving behind a great run for Vanderbilt’s standards. Franklin helped pull the Commodores out of the basement of the SEC, taking his team to multiple bowl games. Franklin hit the ground running and won over many at his press conference yesterday.

—- John Calipari, Orlando Antigua and Kenny Payne all hit the recruiting trail only moments after Kentucky’s win in Nashville on Saturday. The Kentucky coaching staff took in a few games at the Mustang Classic, including stopping in to check on 7-1 Thon Maker (First team all-name candidate). Maker, only a sophomore, is nowhere near a decision but the nation’s #1 prospect in the sophomore class has drawn interest from the likes of Kentucky, Louisville and Indiana.

—- Yesterday’s college basketball action saw one of the remaining unbeaten teams fall (Iowa State), while Wichita State was able to hang on for an impressive come from behind victory. After the dust settled, Gary Parrish’s weekly Top 25 +1 has Kentucky checking in at the #12 spot.
