It’s been exactly two weeks since Kentucky Football last received a commitment, but that could very well change by the time the weekend rolls around.

Alex Afari, a 6-foot-2, 195-pound cornerback out of Lakota West High School up in West Chester, OH, is expected to make his college decision this Friday, May 7. He dropped a list of his top six schools back in February with the likes of Indiana, Iowa State, Virginia, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, and Kentucky making the cut. Josh Helmholdt of Rivals recently reported that Afari will pick from a group of three finalists: Cincinnati, Indiana, and the ‘Cats.

Tabbed as a three-star prospect by 247 Sports, Afari is on the cusp of earning that fourth-star from the popular recruiting service. He is currently ranked as the No. 362 player from the class of 2022 and a top 15 player from the pipeline state of Ohio. Over at Rivals, they have already gifted Afari with four-star status, slotting him as the No. 13 overall player from Ohio.

Landing Afari would be a major grab for Kentucky, and it would continue the connection between the program and Lakota West High School, which has already produced two former Wildcats in John Conner and George Asafo-Adjei. Afari’s potential addition to the 2022 recruiting class would make him the fifth-best player–in terms of his ranking–among the already impressive group that features Kiyaunta Goodwin, Grant Bingham, and the Wade twins.

As of this post, Afari is being projected as a future Wildcat–and there’s a consensus around that feeling. 247 Sports has two Crystal Ball picks logged in favor of Afari to Kentucky, both coming since the end of March with high confidence, while Rivals has all seven FutureCast selections indicating Afari will land in Lexington. All seven of those picks have come since the middle of March, as well.

Kentucky’s 2022 class is currently ranked by 247 Sports as the 12th best in the country, but a verbal commitment from Afari would boost the ‘Cats up to No. 10 overall, leapfrogging Mississippi State and Florida State in the process.

Let’s hope we can break out the dice this Friday.

Surely doesn’t hurt to have the previous two starters drafted! Come on down Mr. Afari!

The Staff is absolutely killing it right now!! Unbelievably talented kids on the field, even better young men off the field. There’s a few more kids I really want in this class and if we can get just one or two, (along with what we have and are in great with), I think they can have the Greatest 4 years in the history of our program. One is Aamil Wagner. I know Ohio St. has offered and been pushing for a commitment and being an Ohio Kid that probably really meant a lot to him, I just hope we Fight Hard for him because he really does like Kentucky and would be a big time player for us. He’s the kind of guy that has Leader written all over him and could do great things for himself and our program. Hope his Big Bro Is putting in a few good words.. Ha! Another one is Dane Key. Dane is a potential SuperStar in the right system. He has good size and is uncoverable when he’s feeling it, he can be as good as he wants to be and I believe he wants to be great. Mark it down, By his Junior year he’ll be one of the top five receivers in all of Collage Football,,. There’s five or six more that could be big time gets for us but I believe in our staff and trust them to get the most out of whoever they choose, I would’ve of course loved to had Wimsatt and just knew he was a Cat, let down for sure but oh well. One more kid I’m really hoping for is Mykel Williams. 6’5 260 Beast, Everyone is saying Georgia but i’m holding out hope for a Christmas Present with this one. HaHa, I do believe he likes Kentucky and the staff but i’m sure he’s got the entire state of Georgia in his ear.. Anyway, I love the Talent on the team right now and think we can compete with anyone, Coach Stoops has Flat Out turned this thing around the right way and i couldn’t be prouder to be a Kentucky Wildcat Fan,.. Go Cats!
