DeAndre Ayton lists Kentucky in his top three

DeAndre Ayton is considered the top player in the 2017 class by every recruiting service, and today, he narrowed his list to three: Kansas, Kentucky, and Arizona.

Before you get too excited, Kansas is considered the heavy favorite for Ayton, whose recruitment has been a little odd. A few months back, Ayton told reporters that Kansas was the only major program recruiting him, a good indicator of some of the red flags surrounding him. What’s the deal? Between eligibility and academic concerns, many don’t believe Ayton will actually play in college, choosing instead to go the Emmanuel Mudiay route and play overseas for a year; however, Ayton told reporters at the Peach Jam he intends to spend a year in college, even if it means taking multiple online courses this summer to be on track to meet the NCAA’s eligibility requirements.

Ayton also said that, after a period of little contact, he’s hearing from Kentucky again. Obviously, he likes Calipari’s pitch, because the Cats made his top three.

Some highlights from the Peach Jam:

DeAndre Ayton
Power Forward/Center | 7-0 | 235 lbs.
Phoenix, AZ | Hillcrest Hoops
AAU: California Supreme
ESPN No. 1 | 1 C Top247 No. 1 | 1 PF

Joel Embiid was a beast in college? Would’ve been the #1 pick if not for injury. Bet you wouldn’t take Greg Oden either huh
