De’Aaron Fox is putting the Big Blue Nation on notice: follow Trae Young on Instagram

Now, in the world of painstakingly thorough social media recruiting analysis, of which I’m a proud citizen, even this isn’t a huge deal. Phrases like “little bro” and various other shoutouts or “S/O’s” get thrown around pretty frequently, and they don’t often mean all that much to the recruits they’re meant to influence. With the advent of social media, you’d figure we’d be at a place where there would be enough information for most people to know for sure where a recruit will go by his set decision date, but that’s not necessarily the case. Because of the flood of social media we see daily, fans can be just as easily misled by hopeful current players and sports media hot-takers as they can be informed by meaningful reporting.

At the end of the day, Young won’t make his decision based on how much love he got from 2016 guys on social media, but it could mean that Kentucky remains in as strong of a standing with Young as his 247 Crystall Ball predicition would indicate. Recruiting is a weird and unpredictable process to follow all the way up to signing day.

Long story short: posts like this one won’t change a recruit’s mind (exhibit A: Marques Bolden), but it could hint at what Young is thinking right now.

But the love was deserved for Young, as he dropped 28 points to lead his Mokan Elite team in their Peach Jam tournament blowout victory, 93-65. Those kind of performances became par for the course for Young throughout the Peach Jam, where he executed a number of amazing/silly/Curry-like/[insert positive adjective here] plays. Here’s a few:

During halftime of the championship game, ESPN’s Adam Finkelstein said that he believes Young will go to school at his native Oklahoma. Maybe De’Aaron’s congratulatory post suggests otherwise.

Make of it what you will #BBN. Oh, and don’t forget to follow @traeyoung
