I’m going to be honest with everyone here for a second. Tony Parker scares the hell out of me tonight. He’s not the old Tony Parker. You remember him? The fat guy who couldn’t stay out of foul trouble and barely stay on the court. Yeah, well he’s not that anymore.
Tony Parker will be the reason UCLA can compete with Kentucky tonight. The senior is putting up a double-double every time he steps on the court, averaging over 14 points and 12 rebounds a game. On top of that UCLA is one of the best offensive rebounding teams in the country (ranked 29th) mostly because of Parker’s dominance on the glass. If there’s one thing we’ve seen with the team so far this year is that physical play doesn’t go in our favor.
Skal is a helluva player, but he hasn’t developed the strength to fully compete with a guy the size of Parker just yet. Mind you Parker stands at 6’9″, 260 pounds. It wouldn’t surprise me to see some Isaac Humphries tonight just to use his larger frame against Parker, even if it’s just to commit five fouls. Humphries can at least make Parker work for his rebounds against a guy similar in size, which should let Lee and Skal benefit later in the game.
