College basketball has its Dunk of the Year and it’s not up for debate

It took only three days to find the Dunk of the Year in 2015. Watch Jerian Grant, Horace’s nephew, defy everything we learned in physics to throw one down.

Yea I can’t debate that. It reminds me of the amazing Dirk Minniefield dunk from the 80s but this kid was even higher.
No, the laws of physics say nothing about doing a chin-up on the rim. Where is the spectacular part of this?
Try again….he never pulls the rim down until ATER dunks it. He literally has his head above the rim at the time his hands first touch the rim.
Yes, he jumped really high. Degree of difficulty? Meh. Exciting, yes. Dunk of the Year? Not up for debate?
Well, if not dunk of the year, then he should win the high flyer award.
Man, Florida may not even make the tourny at this point. They’ll have little opportunity for a quality win besides playing us and they have NO really good wins yet. They totally blew that game with UConn. Embarrassing non-conf home loss for the SEC.
Sometimes I hate that we play in the SEC. This is yet another example. SEC basketball teams routinely lay an egg against out of conference competition, but when the Cats come to town, you can bet on them playing like they are the Lakers in their prime. It is a minefield for UK because the Cats get no help with their seeding if they beat these teams, but one stumble against them can cost them dearly.
Minniefield’s dunk against Auburn was better.
Too bad we only have grainy low-def footage of it to compare.
It was against Miss St. I don’t know if his was better, but it was awesome (even though Dirk did use the defender to elevate).
RCF is right…I wish ESPN would post good quality clips of great plays from their early days. Dirk’s dunk clip is off someone’s top loading VCR they rented from the grocery store. Remember when even they rented those things to compete with the video store?
Dirks dunk was better than this, by a long shot. Grainy footage or not.
Agree – I just wish we had the benefit of multiple camera angles back then, so you could see just how high up he was.
Why “Horace’s nephew” instead of Harvey’s son?
Haha guys he climbed the defender. He did not jump that high. Geez
You’re kidding, right? No way he climbed the defender – the guy tried to take a charge and backed away. If this was a UK player doing this and someone claimed he climbed the defender BBN would be all over them. The guy simply got up – plain and simple.
Take another look. It was not an offensive foul, that’s not what I’m saying. But it’s very clear that he used the defender to get higher.
Pulled himself up via the rim….nothing special.
He absolutely used the defender to increase his elevation…and that’s illegal.
Having reviewed the film, ad nauseum, I still conclude that this is NOT the best DOY (dunk of the year) 2014/2015.
Folks, the comments about him climbing up the defender or pulling himself up on the rim prompted me to watch it a few more times, and in the words of Coach Cal, “you people are crazy”. ๐
That dude flat out elevated. Plain. And. Simple. Yes, he hung on the rim, but his head was above the rim before his hands even made contact with it – he simply hung on it and swung around to break his fall. If I could dream of getting up that high I would do the same thing – that’s a long way back to the ground. Like falling off a ladder. Let’s give credit where it’s due – that was an amazing display of athleticism.
