Cole Anthony picks North Carolina

Cole Anthony is headed to North Carolina. The top ranked guard in the 2019 class just picked the Tar Heels over Georgetown, Notre Dame, and Oregon on ESPN.

Kentucky was once in the running, but didn’t make the cut when Anthony, the son of former NBA star Greg Anthony, narrowed his list to six at the end of October. With Coby White headed to the NBA, landing Anthony is a big, big deal for Roy Williams’ squad. Dangit.

Now that Anthony’s off the board, only one top 15 recruit in the 2019 class is undecided: Jaden McDaniels.

1. James Wiseman – Memphis
2. Cole Anthony – North Carolina
2. Isaiah Stewart – Washington
4. Anthony Edwards – Georgia
5. Vernon Carey Jr. – Duke
6. Jaden McDaniels – Undecided
7. Josh Green – Arizona
8. Nico Mannion – Arizona
9. Scottie Lewis – Florida
10. Matthew Hurt – Duke
11. Kahlil Whitney – Kentucky
12. Tyrese Maxey – Kentucky
13. Jeremiah Robinson-Earl – Villanova
14. Bryan Antoine – Villanova
15. Isaiah Mobley – USC

It seems like McDaniels will stay home and pick Washington, but Jack Pilgrim will bring you the latest on Kentucky’s chances later today.

I guess he will be able to focus more on basketball with all of UNC cupcake classes.

You mean the fake classes he can fake skip?

Ah yes, while all our players major in Exploratory Studies in Agriculture. Totally not cupcake classes!

Are they real classes UKDW or are they fake? Big difference in curriculum that does not exist and curriculum that does.

      3:17 pm April 23, 2019 Permalink

Sure, they’re real classes, never said they weren’t. But it’s not like any of our guys *actually* study or take these classes seriously. And that’s not exclusive to UK, that’s at pretty much school where top level recruits go to. I know someone who “tutored” a UK player. And by tutor I mean did their HW. My friend at IU knows someone who did the same for an IU player. So this is a stupid argument for UK fans to hold onto.

    • 4everUKblue
      3:26 pm April 23, 2019 Permalink

What is stupid is for anyone to lump all UK players into one category, we have had several players who took education seriously. That would be hard to do if the classes were faked. One more thing, don’t ever compare IU to UK, just don’t.

    • UKDemarcusWall
      5:25 pm April 23, 2019 Permalink

Several players, like the ones that don’t really contribute on our team? Like the Jonny David’s and Brad Calipari’s?

If you think any of the one and done’s (Specifically OAD’s, also not counting those that stay 4 yrs like Poythress and Miller) actually take education seriously then you are naive. Again, that isn’t exclusive to UK. These players are rightfully focusing on their honing their talents in order to make millions the next year.

I will compare IU to UK because they are both college basketball teams. Just because you don’t like them doesn’t mean they aren’t comparable.

How much does it matter? Has it helped dUKe the last 4 seasons? If you think so you should look into it. All it’s done for K is keep him and his tainted program on the front page of ESPN.

When we got the “best” everybody was mad when they left after one year. Now when we have players staying 2-3 years, everyone’s mad because we’re not getting the best. Cant have it both ways! At least we’re not Kansas… they didn’t even land a single top 100 player, ouch!

Kids usually end up at the right college for their talent and attitude. Cole Anthony doesn’t seem like a kid that wants to go through the Calipari experience. I wouldn’t trade Calipari for any coach but he’s not right for every kid.

Kids who have been told how great they are and have to come in and compete for playing time rather than be guaranteed don’t want to come to Kentucky. There’s no other coach I want at Kentucky.

Correct… now how many schools have won more National Championships , or equal amount of National Championships, as Our Kentucky Wildcats since COACH PROCESS arrived???

And let’s take a good look at how many of those teams are paying their head coach more than UK gives up to COACH PROCESS???

      LOL… it’s a killer combination… a weak AD with a weak bench coach!

      GO BIG BLUE!

And Washington would make five if they get McDaniels.

    • I seed your point nocode (that no one landed 3 of the top 5 like Duke did last year), but actually there is UK, Nova, Puke, and Zona each with 2 of the top 15. If Jaden goes to Washington that’s 2 for them.

It’s becoming a trend for us at KENTUCKY!

Coach PROCESS has lost his mojo… well, what he used to sell BBN as MOJO!

We are not Winning another NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP as long as Calipari is here! Ain’t gonna happen!

Of course, for those who care… it’s the NBA draft picks we can look forward to! LOL

i like how matt thinks recruiting is “probably” cleaner now than ever because no one wants to go to prison. but aaron torres said it best – no one is being punished by the ncaa for everything that happened. so everyone is looking at the state of things and probably cheating even more knowing that even if they get caught, nothing will come of it. There are a lot of names on that list that have no business landing top talent. washington, georgia, memphis. arizona.

    • StillBP
      9:42 am April 23, 2019 Permalink

Well we all know Arizona cheats bc Miller has been busted. But that doesn’t mean everyone who you assume has “no business landing top talent” is cheating.

    • nocode96
      10:03 am April 23, 2019 Permalink

I mean, before and after all this, Arizona is still big time in recruiting. Them landing too 15 talent is certainly not a new phenomenon. Washington has also had its fair share of top recruits for a long time now. Memphis just hired a big time baller, he’s likely to Peter our as a coach, but I certainly see the desire for kids to go there. Georgia, well, laugh all you want, I know ksr loves to dump on him, but Crean is a heck of a coach, and a lot of top talent just wants to stay home and be the big fish in a little pond, can’t fault guys for that either…it worked out great for that kid from Oklahoma, Young.

Also, these comments never cease to amaze me, how is it so many people can’t fathom why a a teenager wouldn’t pick Kentucky??? I don’t get it. You guys do realize we are probably hated more than dUKe on a national level right? Kentucky isn’t some beloved, sacred cow outside of the state. Kids grow up despising us, much like we do despising Louisville or UNC. If it wasn’t for the school, why on earth would kids want to live in Lexington? The opening of that second Olive Garden on New Circle means jack to these guys. You think these kids care one bit about horse farms? You think a number one recruit can’t wait to get here so they can visit the bourbon trail on their first off day? So many of you are delusional about how UK is viewed by the general public. 27 thousand quiet, boring fans every game only means there’s nothing else to do. This basketball is life thing we have just isn’t appealing to every kid out there. Kids want cool places to go, excitement, technology, even a little bit of danger….Lexington isn’t the first thought when thinking of these things. Even Athens, Georgia is far more fun and hip than Lexington. We aren’t gonna get every recruit, and the ones we are getting (which are fantastic and we should all be happy with them) aren’t coming here for the “Kentucky” on the uniform, they come here because of Cal and his outstanding track record of getting guys PAID.

    • katmandue2you
      10:29 am April 23, 2019 Permalink

Dude…Lexington certainly isn’t Dubai but damn…you coming down kinda hard aren’t ya?

    • StillBP
      10:13 am April 23, 2019 Permalink

Wait is there really an Olive Garden opening on New Circle?

    • nocode, that last sentence is exactly why folks like me can’t understand how Puke all of a sudden became the cool school again. Cal has a much better track record of guys getting paid but all of a sudden the vampire is out-recruiting him. Something smells fishy to me.

As for the cheating, if Wade, Miller, and Self skate on this, it’s going to get worse, not better, IMO.

When Anthony’s dad was in college UNC was probably the top program. This feels a lot like his dad vicariously attending UNC through Cole.

      9:45 am April 23, 2019 Permalink

Very illogical statement. His dad went to UNLV and won a national championship with them. The next year they were undefeated with their only loss coming in the championship game by 2 points to Duke.

Gonna have to go with Tony on this one. It might be your opinion but it doesn’t mean it’s not incredibly wrong. His Dad just wants him to succeed and go to a school that gives him tons of exposure and will make him the star of the team so he can be a top pick.

    • TonyMontana

I mean Greg Anthony is #10 in career assists and #20 in steals all-time, had his jersey retired and was a lottery pick. To say he needs to live vicariously is just crazy. Ok, im done… sorry.

    • ClutchCargo
      10:02 am April 23, 2019 Permalink

UNLV was dominant during Greg’s time. I doubt that he would have traded that for any of the blue blood programs.

    • 4everUKblue
      12:17 pm April 23, 2019 Permalink

Yes they were dominant. But didn’t they get busted for cheating? That may have contributed to the dominance.

    • ClutchCargo
      3:18 pm April 23, 2019 Permalink

I’m sure it contributed. And they did get busted, but that was Tarkanian’s problem, not Greg Anthony’s. I’m just saying that UNLV was actually better than UNC at that time (and beat the dog crap out of Puke in the title game), so I don’t see any reason why he would need to live vicariously through his son.

Cal is snakebit with recruiting lately. This year Penny comes in and takes Wiseman, the Georgia kid chooses to be mouthkissed for some ungodly reason, and last year Count K drops a big wad of cahs to steal Zion away. Can’t win.

Call me a what ever you want but I’m tired of hearing and reading when a player chooses another school other than UK which is the norm not the exception lately. The player or family have been paid, or classes are fake, Certain player is not UK caliber and would not work in Cal’s system. What really is frustrating is how we compare UK to Duke, what do I mean, as long as Duke doesn’t when then it’s ok UK didn’t win. When has UK become the Little Brother to Duke. Each player has his reasoning to why they picked a school other than UK we may not ever know their reasoning but keep spitting out that a player is being payed, classes are fake, players need 40 min and 20 shots a game is the reason why they didn’t choose UK, JUST STOP!!! IT IS NOT A GOOD LOOK!! May be Cal needs to change up his recruiting like he change his mind on Grad Transfers.
