Coach Calipari Calls to Comfort Erin Andrews

It’s been more than six years since Erin Andrews was the victim of a stalker, and she’s still dealing with the fallout.

The Fox Sports reporter, formerly of ESPN, was staying at the Nashville Marriott when Michael David Barrett tampered with a peephole to record her in the nude.  Barrett spent two and a half years in prison, but the viral video caused serious psychological harm.

Andrews is now in a $75 million civil suit against Barrett and the Nashville Marriott.  She’s spent this week providing emotional testimony in court about the awful experience.  The details revealed have been difficult to watch.

During today’s testimony, she became emotional when discussing the support she’s received from players and coaches during her difficult time.  Les Miles, Roy Williams and John Calipari are just a few who have reached out.

Best wishes to Andrews from KSR.  Even though we don’t know her, watching her struggle is truly heartbreaking.

I feel for the very real pain and humiliation that Erin Andrews went through because of that freak, but I dunno about this lawsuit. The social misanthrope who actually did it obviously can’t pay her the $75 million, so the suit is really trying to get that money from the Nashville Marriott. Why is the hotel responsible for the criminal actions of one man? And since a business must necessarily pass along expenses, why should subsequent guests at the Nashville Marriott have to pay higher rates in order to pay a judgement against the hotel to award $75 million to Ms. Andrews? None of the people who would actually be paying the money, the future guests at the hotel, had anything to do with it!

The reason is that the stalker called the hotel, asked what her room number was, and then booked the room next to her. While 75 mil is excessive, maybe in the future hotels will protect the privacy of their guests. She has gone through hell over this.

I am not so sure about this law suit. However, I am very sure that this low life criminal should have been executed. Prison time was too good for him.

SmartCat is right. The guy called the hotel and they confirmed that she was staying there and gave out her room number. He then reserved the room next to her. By not protecting the privacy of their guests, they put her in harm’s way. Would you want a hotel to give out that much information about you to a total stranger?

Wow, kentuckyrld, executed? You’d fit in well in Saudi Arabia.

While it is a despicable act, the death penalty might be a tad much.

Calipari reached out to offer emotional support. Pitino would have just reached out to grope her.

EA is the best, and would make a great guest for the OTT.

I’m so glad that Cal did this. The disturbing comments, ranging from insensitive to vile, that people have been throwing Erin’s way during this suit constitute a good barometer for why sexual assault against women remains such a huge ongoing problem.

Erin spoke at the Women’s Clinic several years ago, and in our group she discussed how much it meant to her that Coach Cal reached out to her. She said right after it happened, she went to her father’s home, didn’t want to talk to anyone, but her dad came and told her that Coach Cal had called. She called him back.

She said no one who didn’t know him would know what a good man he was – that he let her interview him when other coaches would not, that he was respectful to her as a reporter, and most of all that he was such a caring friend.
