Coach Cal regifting a Barclays pen is so Coach Cal

John Calipari may have a $52.5 million contract, but that in no way means he has to spend it on Christmas gifts.

Today, his daughter Megan tweeted about the inscribed Tiffany’s pen she received from Coach Cal for Christmas. It says “Barclays Center” on it, where UK played its last game.

That’s a guaranteed regift.

It reminds me of when Calipari’s oldest daughter, Erin, told us stories of her dad always trying to save a buck, back when she was a co-host on KSR. I believe I remember her telling us the door on the family’s toaster oven has been broken for years, and he refuses to replace it. They use random kitchen objects to prop it up and keep it closed.

See, he’s not so different than some of us. Sometimes it’s good to be reminded he’s also just a human being with regular human being qualities — like, being cheap and regifting.

So Merry Christmas, Megan!

Legitimately parked next to, and walked in with Coach Cal at Walmart on Easter Sunday a few years back. It wasn’t even a super Walmart, just the Richmond Rd. Walmart.

I don’t know if he can or can’t, but every time I’ve met the guy he seems very humble. I took my son to the father/son camp a few years ago and Cal sat at our table for lunch. Hell, I didn’t even expect him to be around all that much.

The Calipari girls are great to follow on Twitter. Love their sarcastic, witty humor.
