Coach Cal puts recruits in virtual Rupp Arena during in-home visits

John Calipari is a trailblazer in basketball recruiting. He’s been at the top of the game since he landed at Kentucky in 2009 and everyone else strives to be him, often imitating his tactics (See: Krzyzewski, Mike) and strategy.

Today, we learned a new innovative way Cal is ahead of the pack, via a story Kevin Knox shared on his USA Today blog. Knox wrote, “Coach Cal brought this panoramic video on an iPad or something and I could walk around inside of Rupp! It’s like I was actually there. It was crazy!”

Knox called it a tie for “Best Presentation” with Roy Williams, who brought pictures of Knox in a North Carolina jersey. (Lame.)

So how ’bout that? Cal’s packing around an interactive, virtual Rupp Arena for recruits to tour from the comfort of their own home. That’s pretty cool, right? It won’t be long before Coach K is doing it, too.

Actually, he’s a vampire. He has not aged in 30 years. That’s just not natural. Probably has no reflection in the mirror.

(adding to the rest of the story)…..and DSPN…er..ESPN will have a story by Jeff Goofman about how K is such the innovator while Dukies all justify why there are so many Duke stories in the comments section!

Gotta love Cal’s originality and how he represents UK and it’s fans! Go Cats!

They could use a cheap , portable VR solution like Google Cardboard and it would be even better.

I hope the virtual Rupp that they are conjuring up is the Rupp we see against a ranked UNC team or a ranked Florida team, and not the one we see for a Stoney Brook game that resembles a mausoleum. Did they replace all the old ladies knitting with crazy college students and hot co-eds? 🙂

I wonder if Coach K’s virtual Cameron will just show the student side like ESPN does, or will it show the rest of that crap hole of a gym?

You can probably get a 360 degree view of sweat dripping from miserable, hot fans in hot weather, or buckets down the hallway catching rain in wet weather.
