Cincinnati Reds, Milwaukee Brewers postpone Wednesday’s game

First, it was the NBA. Now, Major League Baseball is beginning to follow suit. Tonight’s game between the Milwaukee Brewers and the Cincinnati Reds is the first baseball game to postpone play in order to protest the shooting that took place in Kenosha, Wisconsin over the weekend. A police officer shot Jacob Blake, a 29-year-old Black man, several times in the back from close range, which was captured on video by a witness. While Blake did survive the shooting, his family says he is now paralyzed from the waist down.

According to multiple reports, both baseball teams have agreed to postpone the game, meaning neither team will have to forfeit the game and take a loss. The league was informed of the Brewers’ decision about 90 minutes before it was made public, according to Yahoo Sports. The league was supportive of the decision and plans to reschedule the game for a later date.

After the Bucks decided to boycott their game, it didn’t take long for several other NBA teams to come to the same conclusion, as well. Now, all of the basketball games originally scheduled for Wednesday evening have been postponed. We’ll see if MLB takes a similar path.

ESPN’s Jeff Passan is reporting there are currently ongoing discussions among other teams scheduled to compete tonight.

This is a developing story, and it will be updated as more information becomes available.

UPDATE: 7:39 p.m. – The Mariners vs. Padres game has also been postponed.

UPDATE: 9:00 p.m. – The Reds vs. Brewers matchup has been rescheduled for Thursday, with the first game of the doubleheader slated for 5:10 p.m.

UPDATE 9:10 p.m. – The Giants vs. Dodgers game has also been postponed.

The Brewers should have to forfeit their checks. This is ridiculous.

Maybe you should update the article to include the fact that Mr. Blake admitted to having a knife, had been tased unsuccessfully, and resisted orders from police. He was not simply shot in the back as the post indicates. But in today’s lazy, agenda driven media, why would we expect anything less.
