One Kentucky commit’s season did not end at the state championship.
Days after Christian Lewis came up short in the Alabama 5A state championship game for the second straight season, he made a trip to Montgomery for the annual Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Game. The future UK wide receiver has been putting on a show ever since he arrived.
All week Lewis has been matched up with Alabama commit Ga’Quincy McKinstry, a five-star prospect that is considered the No. 1 cornerback in the country. During this week’s practices McKinstry put the cuffs on every single wide receiver, with one exception, Christian Lewis. From 247 Sports’ Andrew Ivins:
There was only one wide receiver that beat McKinstry deep on Monday and that was four-star Christian Lewis. The lanky pass catcher, who appears to be over 6-foot-3, caught more passes than anyone else during the 7-on-7 and full 11-on-11 portions of practice. The play of the night for him was when he got a half a step on McKinstry while running down the sidelines and then was able turn and adjust his body in the air to make a one-handed snag over the blue-chip corner.
Lewis will likely need a year on campus to add some functional strength before he’s able to contribute at the Power 5 level, but it’s hard to not like his catch radius and ability to move the chains with big gains. As a senior, Lewis caught 50 passes for 917 yards and 12 touchdowns. Kentucky secured a commitment from Lewis back in June beating out multiple SEC schools in the process.
You can see that play of the day among a few other highlights below.
