One former Wildcat is off to a solid start at Pebble Beach.

Clay County native Chip McDaniel shot an even-par 71 in the first round of the U.S. Open. After bogeying on the second hole, he recovered with a pair of birdies on the back nine.

McDaniel is six shots off the leader, Justin Rose, and is currently one stroke ahead of the projected cut at +1. That’s where you’ll find another former Cat, J.B. Holmes. Campbellsville’s finest opened the round with back-to-back bogeys, but he recovered with a pair of birdies before reaching the clubhouse.

It’s only McDaniel’s fifth PGA tournament. He finished in the top five at an event in the Dominican after making his debut at the Barbasol Championship in Lexington. He’ll return to Keene Trace for this year’s tournament July 18-21. The last time he was in Lexington, McDaniel proved pressure is no problem for the pros.

McDaniel will tee off today 11:24 ET before Holmes gets to the course at 4:25 ET. You can catch all the action on FS1.
