In an effort to combat the spread of the coronavirus, schools are trying to limit the number of people at high school football games this fall. According to KHSAA Commissioner Julian Tackett, one group that isn’t essential on the sidelines is cheerleaders.
“The other issue, quite frankly, we have, we have a discussion later on about sideline cheer and they are fantastic at events,” Tackett said in this morning’s Board of Control meeting. “They do add some enthusiasm and as most of you know that I married into cheerleading years ago and as a spouse of a former president of their association, if you don’t think I don’t hear feedback…at the same time, what I’m going to say is not going to be popular with that group but cheerleaders are not essential at a football game. They’re nice but not essential. They’ll be essential when they have their season. That’s their essential time. And sometimes people don’t want to hear that.”
Oh boy. That’ll get people talking.
