Charles Matthews, Michigan Win the BIG Ten Tournament

Charles Matthews has certainly had a memorable year in his first season as a Michigan Wolverine, perhaps today made it a little more memorable as Michigan outlasted Purdue to win the Big Ten tournament for the second year in a row.

Matthews finished his day with 8 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists in 33 minutes as a big day from Moritz Wagner was just enough for the Wolverines to hold off a late push by Purdue to win by a score of 75-66.

Matthews played well throughout the BIG 10 tournament averaging 9.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 2.25 assists in 4 games. It has been cool to watch Matthews succeed this season after a tough freshman year at Kentucky.

I haven’t seen any brackets that have Kentucky colliding with Michigan at any point in the tournament, but if you factor in Kentucky’s recent history with the seeding committee it will probably happen.

After this weekend’s performances from both teams I don’t think any member of the BBN is hoping for a potential match-up with Michigan and Matthews.

Having a guy that could defend the wing would’ve been nice the past two years.

Why did we let him leave. I saw his ability just as a ball player…never did get to spread his wings at UK! Look what we lost!!!

We? Did you know players get to decide for themselves?

As Cal says, UK is not for everybody. Matthews apparently realized it wasn’t for him and chose to leave. It happens.

Had he gotten some playing time! Probably would’ve stayed.

Matthews did get playing time. When I watched him, I remember thinking he was a good transition player who would never be able to score much in our half court offense. But according to reports here and elsewhere at the time, Matthews wanted to be one of the focuses of Cal’s offense. This is what Cal means when he says UK isn’t for everyone. I disliked seeing Matthews go. But the absence of Matthews is not the problem with our current team.

Cal recruited over him. Its the Cal system. If a player doesnt succeed in 1 year he feels worthless. Also Cal plays favorites. Didnt want to give Matthews time

But Slater you constantly complain that Cal is giving Diallo too much playing time that he shouldn’t be playing him at all…..Can’t have it both ways fool. Might as well learn to like Cal, he will leave when he is ready to leave.

Cal is a players’ coach. All of his former players say so. It was very obvious at his HOF induction. The suggestion that Cal favors certain players for no good reason is flat out ignorant. Some of our fans are angry over Diallo and Richards. They think they know more about college basketball than our coaches know. So they post this ignorant stuff.

      Don’t bother, BBND is a Trumpster – you’re arguing with a fencepost.

BBND hasn’t succeeded at getting any smarter in the time he has been on here. He is worthless.

Cal doesn’t need anyone’s help with coaching. But since you are such an expert on coaching and I’m sure you have tons of experience, you should submit your resume Slater.

He shot 52% free throws. BBN would have eaten him alive. I am happy that he landed in a good situation. “This program is not for everyone”

BBNDude/Slater would have been the leader in complaining, that’s all he knows how to do.
