Can we put Dom on staff or something? I don’t know what’s more sad, saying bye to Hawkins, or Kemp in football. Such good, unselfish guys and important players.

Maybe in a few years. I don’t know that Hawkins is an NBA guard, but he could go play in Europe or China for a few years and make bank. I’d love to have him on staff once his playing career is finished.

Dom is just the kind of person you want to have around in general. Always smiling, always positive, and a hard worker. We need more people like him in the world, and less Jerry Tiptons!

Well my favorite to win the title got shut completely down by Virginia last night. The longer the season goes, the better I feel about the Cats’ chances in March!

I often think I never know which version of our team will show up on any given night, but it sounds like that is the case with a lot of the top teams.

It seems like everyone is fighting the consistency battle. Kansas had to rely on a 31-9 run in the final 10 minutes to beat Oklahoma as well. They were down almost the whole game.

Gonna take a wild stab that it was a Kansas home game with a comeback aided by absurd officiating.

realme, my thoughts exactly. i actually tuned in around that time and told my wife “i bet you anything kansas wins this game” but she already knows that kansas has the biggest “home court advantage” in the history of basketball. we’ve been there and done that before

    • J-Dub421

Who gets a bigger “home court advantage,” Duke or Kansas?

    • ukjaybrat
      10:38 am February 28, 2017 Permalink

kansas. hands down. i don’t like duke but they are actually good most of the time and just win games. kansas isn’t even that great most years and still never loses at home.

I would say Kansas, too….since they shot 15-16 FT’s against us in overtime, didn’t score a basket, and beat us.
I would never, ever schedule another game there.

    • ukjaybrat
      10:44 am February 28, 2017 Permalink

there’s a good reason we never play at kansas (until the big12-sec challenge makes us do it)

    • J-Dub421
      10:45 am February 28, 2017 Permalink

I didn’t watch the UNC/Va game, but looking at the box score it appears that neither team could throw the ball in the ocean from the beach. Bad shooting percentages all around.

    • ukjaybrat
      10:45 am February 28, 2017 Permalink

until this year when they beat us, we’ve had an astronomical record against kansas in recent memory and again, we were battling that sickness and injuries when we played them. healthy v healthy and that’s a different game.

    • Laker Cat 18
      11:24 am February 28, 2017 Permalink

We’ll never see Kansas in the tournament. They’ll be out in the Sweet 16 again. I can see any 4-seed knocking them out.

The Cats answered their critics in regard to defense and rebounding in the Florida game. It was a gritty inspired effort. Question is do we backslide to the passive ways, or do we put the hammer down?
Vandy is a great opportunity to answer the question…they have won 5 out of six, including wins over Tennessee, South Carolina, and Arkansas.
    Put the hammer down.

    • WatchutalkinboutWillis
      10:13 am February 28, 2017 Permalink

Is it coincidence that we rebounded and played defense and spread out the oppositions defense with Fox on the bench? I don’t think it is. I think Fox is the best or second best player on the team…but playing Fox and Briscoe together messes us up I think.

There’s room on the court for two drivers, they just have to use discretion in shot selection….play to their strengths and avoid jump shots.

Admittingly, I do not follow UK basketball as much as most of those which post here, but what might have been their record, without the flu and the horrible officiating? Maybe 2 or 3 losses turn into wins? If so, I think everyone might be looking at this team a bit differently. They have as good a chance as anyone when the tournament begins, I think.

    • J-Dub421
      10:35 am February 28, 2017 Permalink

We’re 24-5, not exactly a bad record. I think people are simply being unreasonable with their expectations.

    • ukjaybrat
      10:41 am February 28, 2017 Permalink

without flu/injuries. @UT and Kansas could have turned out differently and we certainly don’t “barely beat” uga.

but there’s no telling really. I’m happy where we are. I don’t really think a 1 seed gets us anything better than where we are because honestly i think some of the teams that will end up being 4 seeds are just as dangerous. maybe in a different year? but this year the 1 seeds are all teams that beat up on crappy teams in their conferences and the 2-4 seeds are traditional powers that just struggled to get all the pieces together and most of which are starting to really come around right now. it’ll be a good tournament no matter what though. im excited

  7. J-Dub421

Circling back to a point Matt made earlier, Self really doesn’t get any criticism even though there are clearly some shady things going down in Kansas (Bragg’s domestic violence charge and later a suspension for drugs, the rape charge in the dorm, a player getting arrested for not showing up in court, etc.). Self also doesn’t get any criticism for his early tournament exits, and there have been several of those. Kansas gets the same general amount of talent that we do, but has done considerably less with it in the post-season in recent years, yet everyone says the Cal/Kentucky have underachieved. If we’ve underachieved in comparison to our talent, then Kansas has fallen on it’s face in the mud.

    • ukjaybrat
      11:11 am February 28, 2017 Permalink

but they can claim they’ve won the regular season big 12 for a 100 years in a row. (again, goes back to best “home court advantage” in the history of the sport – it’s hard not to win a conference when you never lose home games)

The last Big 12 (Big 8) team that won the National Championship was Oklahoma State, back when they were Oklahoma A & M and coached by Henry Iba. And, they were not in the Big 12…they were in the MIssouri Valley Conference.
The Big 12 is a football conference….and look at Kansas football, they had better win at roundball.
At least, that’s all I could find, anybody know any more recent than OSU?

    • J-Dub421

The conference is weak as well.

    • Realme
      11:26 am February 28, 2017 Permalink

That’s the other thing. The narrative that Kansas is great because they dominate their conference, vs the one where the SEC is bad because they’re dominated by UK.

    • J-Dub421
