The first Sunday of 2016 brings about the final week of the NFL season and several former Cats have a lot on the line as we approach the postseason. Four Cats have a spot already locked up and two more will have a chance to join them. Will any of them have a chance to raise the Lombardi trophy? That quest will begin today, here’s where you can see the former Cats in NFL action:
Going To The Playoffs
Randall Cobb, WR, & Tim Masthay, P, Green Bay Packers (10-5) Vs. Minnesota Vikings
The Packers and Vikings have both already clenched a spot in the playoffs but tomorrows game still has a lot on the line. The winner will clench the NFC North and face the streaking Seahawks. The loser will get to play the Redskins. In other words, tomorrow night’s game could be like that episode of South Park where the teams are trying their best to lose the game.
Danny Trevathan, ILB, Denver Broncos (11-4) Vs. San Diego Chargers
Following last week’s win over the Bengals, Denver is now in control of their destiny for the two seed in the AFC. Should be an easy task as they host the Chargers who have all but folded.
Corey Peters, IR, Arizona Cardinals (13-2) Vs. Seattle Seahawks
Our guy Corey Peters hasn’t played this season following an achilles tear to begin the preseason but he could still end up with a Super Bowl ring. The Cardinals have the 2 seed already locked up so you can expect the team of veterans to use this game to get some rest before the playoffs.
Trying To Get In
Bud Dupree, OLB, Pittsburgh Steelers (9-6) @ Cleveland Browns
Bud Dupree and the Steelers need to beat the Browns and then have the Jets lose to the Bills in order to make the playoffs. If that happens the Steelers would likely face the Bengals in a divisional showdown.
Winston Guy, DB, Indianapolis Colts (7-8) Vs. Tennessee Titans
The Colts can limp into the playoffs with a win over the Titans and a Houston loss to Jacksonville. Not the most likely of scenarios but at least there is a chance.
Better Luck Next Year..
Darrian Miller, OT, Cleveland Browns (3-12) Vs. Pittsburgh Steelers
Word out of Cleveland is that the current Coach and GM are on their way out. If so that’ll mark the 6th coach since 2009 for the troubled franchise.
Stevie Johnson, WR, San Diego Chargers (4-11) @ Denver Broncos
Will this be the final NFL game for a team based in San Deigo?
Za’Darius Smith, OLB, & Chris Matthews, WR, Baltimore Ravens (5-10) @ Cincinnati Bengals
Bengals need a win coupled with a Denver loss to grab the 2-seed in the NFC. The Ravens would like to spoil their chances.
Jacob Tamme, TE, Atlanta Falcons (8-7) Vs. New Orleans Saints
Solid year for the Falcons but there are just too many teams in the AFC with a better record which will leave them at home. Will Matt Ryan return next season to throw to our guy Tamme?
Larry Warford, OG, Detroit Lions (6-9) @ Chicago Bears
The Lions have gone 5-2 down the stretch to make their record a bit more respectable. Too many early losses doomed their season.
Avery Williamson, ILB & Wesley Woodyard, ILB, Tennessee Titans (3-12) @ Indianapolis Colts
The rebuilding job continues for the Titans.
