Catching up on Marrow, Bragg, Harris, and oh yeah, basketball (Monday Show Thread)

Good Monday morning, friends, and my condolences to those of you heading back to work today for the first time since the holidays. Thankfully, we’ve got two hours of Kentucky Sports Radio for you to ease the pain.
This morning, there is A LOT to catch up on, starting with Vince Marrow’s huge decision to return to Kentucky and what that means for the UK football program. From there, they’ll break down Carlton Bragg and Damien Harris’ upcoming decisions and where Kentucky stands with each. Finally, they’ll talk about Kentucky basketball, because it feels like forever and a day since we’ve seen the Cats play.

Boo yah! RIP Stuart Scott. Class act.
Great news for UK football…
I’ve missed KSR, feels like it has been a week since it’s been on. Also ready for some basketball!
Morning Matt – Hope you guys enjoyed a great holiday break like we did (came back from a family Caribbean cruise 🙂 Also learned from Tom Leach that my favorite UK player Tyler had the same birthday today as my son (he is turning 25 🙂
Finally, some KSR and a basketball game tomorrow!!! Been going through DTs!!
RIP Stuart Scott
Please keep another BBN family member in your prayers…my good friend(girlfriend for the last 2+ years) 😉 Harper lost her battle with cancer last week at the WAY too early age of 9; we said our final goodbyes to her yesterday. No more fighting, no more pain. Her family asks that we all #choosejoy during this time. Thanks to my blue family for the thoughts and love!!
So sorry for your loss.
I’m sorry, UKBigDaddy4. May she rest in peace.
Boy the SEC took it on the chin this bowl season:
LSU: Lost to a BAD Notre Dame Team
Auburn: Lost to a Wisconsin team that got beat 59-0
Mississippi State: Trounced by Georgia Tech
Ole Miss: Killed by TCU
Auburn: Handled by OSU
Yikes….
The SEC won 7 bowl games. All 5 East teams and the two lowest West teams (Arkansas and A&M.
Georgia beat U of L, that was the only one I really cared about.
wait, Auburn got two bowl games? Lost to Wisconsin and Ohio State? Man, how did I miss that. *insert Alabama for the last Auburn*
Yeah… typo with Auburn beat by OSU… But like Clay said, The West was the one with all the hype, not the east. If you are trying to tell me that Tennessee and Florida’s win over ECU and Iowa cancel the SEC West losses I find that hard to believe. People remember the bowls, and the West threw and Egg…
I think there is an argument to be made that the Pac-12 was the best conference.
The pac-12 south has 5 top 25 teams, five 9 win teams, three 10 win teams, and eight, 8 win teams which maches the SEC. They are 6-2, possibly 7-2 with the national champion.
Theres an argument, that for this 1 year, the best conference was the Pac-12.
I agree, there is the argument, and it may be valid. The advantage they had is that they need not lose as many quarterbacks as the SEC. However, this will not be a trend as the SEC is just tearing it up every year in recruiting. Every team in the SEC has recruited well whereas just 1 or 2 teams in other conferences recruit well.
Here are the teams the Pac-12 played in bowl games: 1. Boise State (blown out by Ole Miss) beat Arizona; 2. Arizona State beat Duke, 3. UCLA beat Kansas State by 5 (Auburn beat KSU at KSU on a Thursday night), 4. Utah beat Colorado State (without their head coach-going to Florida), 5. USC beat Nebraska (no head coach) by 3 and Nebraska is garbage, 6. Oklahoma State beat Washington, 7. Stanford beat Maryland, 8. Oregon beat FSU
So those aren’t really good teams they beat: Duke, KSU(good win), Colorado State, Nebraska, and Maryland.
But yeah, I see your point.
I hope the KSR crew made a resolution to acknowledge the show thread.
Me, too. Good luck, I guess. We’ve been relegated to step-child status. Hasbeens. Relics of a once great forum, forsaken for the Twitter machine.
Not sure why the show thread even exists anymore.
It’s okay, we can make our own fun!
Also, my previous statement would be 57 characters too long to post on Twitter.
Sorry Matt. Forgot my contacts. Can’t see the numbers on the phone.
Hey Matt! Over here, the show thread! Hey! Look here! Whoo hoo!
John Short, what? Best running back in the country going to a small in-state school? Is John losing his mind?
It’s John Short what do you really expect?
How would you expect the media not to compare Harrison and Ulis? What if the #1 football team in the country was playing 2 quarterbacks taking equal snaps? Do you not think people would be comparing them. They got to have something to talk about. I’m not taking a dig at the Harrisons, but I believe they may be 4 year players.
Archie is averaging 3.9 points/game and shooting 34 percent from the field and 25 percent from 3-point range. Not really lighting it up.
Wolfe county is Campton. My hometown
Estill County is Irvine.
Irvine is in Estill County.
Ravena would really stump em.
dont miss the mushroom festival in irvine in april
I bet Tony Vanetti loves this song!
Sam Smith is openly gay, I don’t think that song is about a woman.
Late to the show today. Did I miss the discussion about Carlton Bragg?
Everyone be sure to pick up Matt’s new how-to book, “Not Getting Women the Matt Jones Way” where he includes all his excellent commentary about relationships.
Pronounced Er-vun
Think of Irvine spelled Errvin.
Just like Beattyville. Not like it is spelled.
No…. It is pronounced without the E
Marrow staying with UK has to make a huge statement to recruits.
People say it both ways. I know some people born and raised there and they say Ir-vine (long “I”). Maybe the pronunciation is what they get. 😉
Matt,
If you were the governor of Kentucky but you were a big Steelers fan, would you be allowed to go to the Rooney’s box @ Steelers games or would you not be allowed to since Cincinnati is right next to NKY?
Let’s see if there is a “tweak” or if this is just Coach Cal talking to take some of the talk away from an undefeated season.
that’s what i was thinking. just deflecting and giving the media something else to talk about rather than “undefeated season” or “ulis over harrison”
Christie represents his people politically and economically not their personal lives. Who cares what teams he cheers for. Same goes with McConnell. Who cares who their personal sports teams are.
I agree. Couldn’t care less outside of job performance.
Its just fun to pick at when you’re a Kentucky state senator and your favorite team is Louisville.
Sure except that Louisville is in Kentucky so in all honest it’s not that big of a deal. He also went there. I just don’t see that being a big deal in the grand scheme of things. I love Kentucky athletics but some fans really need to work on their priorities. It’s just a game at the end of the day.
“in all honest”…. I guess that explains why you live on this site and make 40 post a day!
Good news: looks like cats paw has finally learned when it’s appropriate to use quotation marks. Your time here is not wasted, Joe!
Bad news: he still can’t hand out a good burn. So Joe leaving out a “y” explains why he lives on this site and makes 40 posts a day?
I’m sure a lot of eagle and giants fans are upset about Chris Christie, but what’s even more frustrating is the state senator who is a blatant loserville fan.
I am not sure how Matt gets bent out of shape because Christie supports the Cowboys but thinks it is OK for Cal to be political. Maybe Matt is just being partisan.
Man, I’m praying Andrew H comes back strong and shuts up all these haters! One bad game.
Andrew is not only a fine point guard that any team would want but a nice young man too.
Outside of actual game broadcasts, ESPN as a whole has been unwatchable for about 10 years or so now.
Replacing Max Kellerman with Tony Reali was the beginning of the end for me.
Oh, then they did that reality show where they selected a new sportscaster. I guess ESPN is like bad pot. If it’s all you can get and you’re a pothead, you’re gonna keep going back… and they bank on that fact.
I only watch games and PTI. Never liked Sportscenter and their “bigger than the sport” anchors.
Give UK a win by default over UAB.
Side meat is rib meat as far as I know. I figured a Middlesboro guy would know that. lol
I thought ‘side meat’ was a rural euphemism for a mistress…
Or if you have DirecTV and get Lexington channels you don’t get WLEX.
Home of the Superbowl. NBC.
About like Matt to be dissin PBS!
and FOX I guess too.
We have too many counties too.
Random fact: only 2 states in the continental US have more counties than KY, Texas and Georgia.
Not sure why counties with jails need a jailer. Isn’t already established law enforcement taking people to jail?
I think KSR just lost a fan in Harlan!
Isnt the conference tournament considered part of the regular season? What if we celebrate an unbeaten regular season, then lose in the SEC tourney?
Exactly what the 96 team did.
It’s called a post season tourney.
Undefeated that is in conference play. They did lose to UMass in the regular season.
Regular season = games in conference
Pre-season = games prior tot he start of conference play
Post-Season = conference tournaments and NCAA tournament, etc.
Elly May from the Beverley Hillbillies passed away on JAN 1st. Donna Douglas was 82.
41 counties with no jail paying jailers a million dollars? That’s like paying a coach 3.5 million dollars that has never coached college ball or won any game of significance. Do we need to throw in his assistants salaries?
Might be more like hiring your mistress and paying her a bunch of money for a job she’s completely unqualified for, then lying about it.
Wow, Bama has won 5 straight and 14 straight at home this year? That’s impressive.
Sorry, it said “looking” to win 5th and 14th. So, they’re on a 4 and 13 straight @ home, which is still good for Bama BB.
Facts are optional. The article says nearly $2 million and not $3 million as Matt says. Why do people do that?
check Ryan’s twitter…he’ll be announcing the remote location today
