Calipari will visit Jemarl Baker later this week

Last week, we found out that John Calipari is still looking to add some guards to the 2017 class and one of the players he’s looking at is four-star shooting guard Jemarl Baker. Baker was released from his letter of intent with the Cal Golden Bears last week following Cuonzo Martin’s departure, which is when Kentucky first showed interest. Now, according to Baker’s AAU coach Ryan Silver, Calipari will travel to Los Angeles later this week to meet with the 6’2″ 165 lbs. guard.

Baker is considered the 65th best player in the country and the 19th-best shooting guard according to ESPN. 247 Sports lists him at 119th overall and the 22nd-best shooting guard. He’s got interest from Maryland, Utah, Oregon, Arizona, Duke, Marquette, Virginia, and Arizona State.

The recruiting dead period ends on Thursday at noon, so that’s probably when Calipari will head west. He’s also expected to visit another potential guard, Illinois Mr. Basketball Mark Smith, on Thursday. Former NC State signee Thomas Allen could also be in the mix.

We seem to be in panic mode for a guard.. Hollingsworth from Dunbar would’ve been a great fit! Just my opinion.

Based ONLY on what I see in these videos, I like Mark Smith best of these 3…and it’s not even close. Kid is athletic and can flat out stroke it from the outside. I’d like to see him in a Cats uniform.
