Calipari offers unranked 2018 prospect

John Calipari went off the grid with his latest scholarship offer, given to an unranked prospect out of Cincinnati that 99.9999 percent of you have never heard of.

But now that he has the Kentucky offer, you better get to know Jaxson Hayes.

Hayes is a 6-foot-10 senior at Archbishop Moeller and he is probably as surprised as anyone by the new offer on his list, considering he’s never started a game of high school basketball. That’s right: Calipari just offered a spot to a kid who hasn’t started a single game.

“Not on varsity, not on junior varsity, and not even on the freshman team,” his head coach told

But Hayes is a player on the rise after growing close to 10 inches since entering high school, and now he has offers from schools like Texas, Xavier, Ohio State, Purdue, Clemson, Illinois, Butler and Dayton, to go along with the Kentucky offer.

He is the definition of ‘late bloomer’ and coaches are very interested in seeing how much he can bloom. Now that he has the frame, he only needs time, the proper instruction and experience before potentially becoming a very good player.

Maybe a good two or three-year prospect for the class?

    1) Shades of AD with the late growth spurt. 2) This is probably Cal wanting to keep one home-grown 3-4 year kid on the roster, like Willis or Hawk, since Cincy is practically in KY. Maybe he’s a better prospect than anyone in state?

Shiitu and Barrett do not want to play with each other, therefor kentucky must feel good about their chances with barrett and do not want to risk losing barrett with a scholarship offer to Shiitu.

      Im thinking UK gets:

      johsnon or Barrett

A lot of front court players coming back next year!

I like the positive thinking but comparing him to AD is a big stretch. AD was a good guard when Cal recruited him and he turned into a 6-11 center with good ball handling skills. This kid has never started a varsity high school game so I’m thinking more along the lines of SKAL or Shagari Alleyne at this point in time.

AD was not a very good guard in high school

He actually was. He was being recruited by lower level D1 schools. He wasn’t a superstar but he was good.

Moeller is a powerhouse in Ohio and they play a national schedule. With that said, he definitely isn’t your average UK recruit in the sense he hasn’t started a game in HS, I’ll give you that. However, Skal nor Shagari were as mobile as this kid is. He may not be finished growing, he’s very mobile and his skills are improving. I expect him to have a huge year.

Well, agree to disagree. He played on a bad team, and didn’t even play AAU ball before he started shooting up height wise. I believe his only offer was what Cleveland st or some tiny school. I’m not saying he was awful but he was far from good before the growth spurt, he essentially just shot some threes

    Sounds like a CBG move.
