BTI’s Rants and Ramblings: Your Totally Ridiculous, SEC East Championship Scenario

This will be the 4th straight year I have laid out how the SEC East could play out, as reasonable as possible, so that Kentucky could win its first ever division crown in football.  Hell, UK hasn’t finished any higher than 4th since the 2-division split in 1992.  But there is always hope for a miracle season and if Missouri can win 2 straight titles then why can’t the Cats?  So here is how each game could play out for UK to win the SEC East this year:

WEEK 1
Vanderbilt wins at home over South Carolina

WEEK 2
Florida wins at home over Kentucky
Mississippi St wins at home over South Carolina

WEEK 3
Georgia wins at Missouri

WEEK 4
Kentucky wins at home over South Carolina
Ole Miss wins at home over Georgia
Tennessee wins at home over Florida

WEEK 5
Alabama wins at home over Kentucky
Georgia wins at home over Tennessee
LSU wins at home over Missouri
Texas A&M wins at home over South Carolina
Florida wins at Vanderbilt

WEEK 6
Kentucky wins at home over Vanderbilt
LSU wins at Florida
Georgia wins at South Carolina
Texas A&M wins at home over Tennessee

WEEK 7
Florida wins at home over Missouri
Georgia wins at home over Vanderbilt
Alabama wins at Tennessee

WEEK 8
Kentucky wins at home over Mississippi State

WEEK 9
Kentucky wins at Missouri
South Carolina wins at home over Tennessee
Georgia beats Florida (neutral field)

WEEK 10
Kentucky wins at home over Georgia
Arkansas wins at home over Florida
Auburn wins at home over Vanderbilt
South Carolina wins at home over Missouri

WEEK 11
Tennessee wins at home over Kentucky
Florida wins at home over South Carolina
Missouri wins at home over Vanderbilt
Auburn wins at Georgia

WEEK 12
Tennessee wins at home over Missouri
Ole Miss wins at Vanderbilt

WEEK 13
Missouri wins at home over Arkansas
Tennessee wins at Vanderbilt

  1. Kentucky: 5-3
    2. Georgia: 5-3
    3. Tennessee: 4-4
    4. Florida: 4-4
    5. Missouri: 3-5
    6. South Carolina: 2-6
    7. Vanderbilt: 1-7

And thanks to UK’s win over Georgia, they would own the tiebreaker and go to the SEC title game.  Just that easy, right?  If Kentucky could just win each conference home game and steal the game at Missouri, that would be a 5-win SEC season.  Of the 4 SEC home games, I could see them being competitive in each of them.  So why can’t the chips fall just right for us once and we pull this off?  YOU GOTTA BELIEVE!

That really is totally ridiculous, but sometimes totally ridiculous things actually happen. Witness the Kardashian phenomenon.

I remember reading this post every year and saying …… yea, they could do this! Every year, I feel like we are in the drivers seat to our own destiny, and every year, we do something completely ridiculous and screw it all up. THAT you can count on, but you did say Ridiculous!

Yes, even when we do something unexpected like stealing a road win at South Carolina, we turn around and fart it away by letting Vandy or someone steal a win back.

This is great, and every game result you have listed seems more than reasonable…except the games that UK will need to win. On paper, we should be able to win those games without it being a stretch but we won’t. The rest of the games could happen for sure!

I have been an ardent UK Football fan since the mid 1970s! If this exact situation played itself out and we were up 12 on Georgia at home with 30 seconds remaining in the game to win the SEC East Crown, you know damn well they would score on an 80 yard run (up the middle), then we would fumble the ensuing kickoff, and they would hit a hail mary to a seldom used tight end (catching his first college pass as a senior) in the end zone for the win.
