BTI’s Rants and Ramblings: Summer Flashback (Kentucky-Maryland 1998)

Over the summer, I like to highlight some games that often don’t get mentioned in the great lore of UK basketball.  Sometimes they even might be losses, like last week’s Duke-Kentucky 2001.  Today is one of the more exciting regular season games in recent UK history, the game against Maryland in 1998.  The defending national champion Cats had a spotty start to their season and the 2nd ranked Terps came in hot with Steve Francis and others wanting to prove they could take the crown.

They didn’t.  But the game those 2 teams produced was one of the more enjoyable to watch in UK history.

I have that game on DVD. Heshimu Evans had 31 including an awesome fast break dunk.

This game cut off with over a minute still to play.

But let me repeat my challenge to you, BTI, to reach back to the early ’70s — heck, even the late ’60s (Dan Issel, Mike Pratt, Larry Steele days) — for some vintage video. Not everybody here is 30 years old, and some of us older ones would appreciate it.
