Every Monday, I breakdown the UK offense in each possible down and distance scenario.  It will hopefully give you a good sense of where the Cats were strong and not so much.  Unfortunately against Florida we all know there were not strong points.  But, if you are looking for the tiniest of positives from the offense, look at the last group of plays.  Maybe they will cheer you up (UH NO).

1st Down
Pass: 0-2, 1 INT, 1 sack for -6 yards
Run: 16 rushes for 75 yards (4.7 ypc)

Combined Season Statistics
Pass: 9-13, 171 yards, 1 TD,1 INT, 2 sacks for -10 yards (1 fumble lost)
Run: 29 rushes for 167 yards (5.8 ypc), 1 TD

RECAP: The Cats basically gave up on the pass on 1st down really quick.  In fact, they did not attempt a pass on 1st down the entire 2nd half.  The rushing attack had a couple nice runs but also had 6 plays of negative yardage.  Not gonna find many positives in any aspect of the game.

2nd Down and Long (6 yards or more)
Pass: 1-4, 3 yards, 1 INT, 2 sacks for -5 yards
Run: 6 rushes for 14 yards (2.3 ypc)

Combined Season Statistics
Pass: 3-9, 128 yards, 2 TD, 2 INT, 4 sacks for -21 yards (1 fumble lost)
Run: 11 rushes for 26 yards (2.4 ypc)

RECAP: 12 plays run, 12 yards gained.  Enough said.

2nd Down and Short (5 yards or less)
Pass: 1 sack for -5 yards (1 fumble lost)
Run: 2 rushes for 7 yards (3.5 ypc)

Combined Season Statistics
Pass: 0-1,1 sack for -5 yards (1 fumble lost)
Run: 4 rushes for 18 yards (4.5 ypc)

RECAP: 3 plays run.  2 yards gained.

3rd Down and Long (6 yards or more)
Pass: 2-7, 52 yards, 1 INT 1 sack for -10 yards (converted 1 of 8)
Run: 1 rush for 2 yards (2.0 ypc) (converted 0 of 1)

Combined Season Statistics
Pass: 6-12, 79 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT, 2 sacks for -21 yards (converted 3 of 14)
Run: 1 rush for 2 yards (2.0 ypc) (converted 0 of 1)

RECAP: Johnson’s strike to Badet late in the 4th quarter the only positive play here.  Cats completely inept in any aspect of the passing game.

3rd Down and Short (5 yards or less)
Pass: No Plays
Run: 3 rushes for 12 yards (4.0 ypc) (converted 3 of 3)

Combined Season Statistics
Pass: 0-2 (converted 0 of 2)
Run: 4 rushes for 26 yards (6.5 ypc) (converted 4 of 4)

RECAP: HEY A BRIGHT SPOT.  Kentucky converted all 3 of its 3rd and short opportunities and all through the ground game.  So basically, we are on the verge of being the best 3rd and short team in the country.

One the offensive side, the team still have a decent enough ypc average that the run should be their bread and butter. Barker tried to force the air game too much, and it cost us dearly (regardless of whether that choice was on Gran or Barker himself).

    Brian,

Why dont you next do in-depth statistical analysis of the Titanic?

For instance, the percentage of deck chairs rearranged as the ship sank.
