BTI’s Rants and Ramblings: Isn’t This The Greatest Performance in UK History?

There have been 16 times that a UK player has scored more than 41 points in a game.  There have been 5 times that a UK player has scored 50 or more points.  There have been three triple doubles in school history.  And 41 points isn’t even the UK NCAA Tournament record, rather Dan Issel scored 44 points against Notre Dame in 1970.

But for individual performance paired with “the moment”, I don’t think there is much discussion to be had about the greatest performance in UK history.  Jack Givens’ 41 points in the national title game doesn’t get the credit it deserves, both within this fanbase and outside.  41 points.  In the national title game.  Against Duke.  And it brought UK it’s first title in 20 years and wrapped up a career that seemed destined to end in a title.

Am I wrong in saying this is the best performance in UK history and it’s not even close?

So, yes, I believe you’re right that Goose Givens’ 41 points in the NCAA Championship game was the best UK performance ever.

However, their opponent in that game at that time was not even a fraction of the single coach program they are today. That coach hadn’t even been hired yet. Why even mention them?
