BTI’s Rants and Ramblings: How We Got Here……

As we head into SEC play and the potential to become the best UK team in history, it’s always nice to look back at the key dates and moments that got us to this point:

March 27th, 2009: Billy Gillispie Fired as Coach of Kentucky.

March 31st, 2009: John Calipari signs contract to become UK head coach.  Initially, his staff from Memphis follows him to Lexington, Orlando Antigua, John Robic, and Josh Pastner.

April 6th, 2009: Pastner leaves UK staff after 7 days to become Memphis head coach.  Rod Strickland is announced as 3rd assistant.

June 18th, 2010: Kenny Payne becomes 3rd UK assistant coach and Strickland moves over as Director of Basketball Operations.

August 29th, 2011: Sam Malone and Brian Long join team as walk-ons.

October 31st, 2011: Willie Cauley-Stein announces commitment to Kentucky.

November 10th, 2011: Alex Poythress announces commitment to Kentucky.

January 20th, 2012: Derek Willis announces commitment to Kentucky over Louisville.

October 4th, 2012: Andrew and Aaron Harrison announce commitment to Kentucky.

October 13th, 2012: Tod Lanter joins team as walk-on on the day after Big Blue Madness.

October 17th, 2012: Marcus Lee announces commitment to Kentucky.

December 4th, 2012: Karl Anthony-Towns announces commitment to Kentucky.

January 5th, 2013: Dakari Johnson commits to Kentucky.

April 2nd, 2013: Poythress announces he will come back for sophomore season.

April 10th, 2013: Dominique Hawkins announced commitment to Kentucky.

June 5th, 2013: EJ Floreal joins team as a walk-on.

October 31st, 2013: Devin Booker commits to Kentucky.

September 13th, 2013: Tyler Ulis announced commitment to Kentucky.

November 5th, 2013: Trey Lyles announces commitment to Kentucky.

March 28th, 2014: Cauley-Stein injures ankle in NCAA Tournament game against Louisville, likely contributing to decision to return for junior season.

March 31st, 2014: Antigua leaves Kentucky to take South Florida head coach position.

April 7th, 2014: UCONN beats Kentucky in NCAA title game.  Do all the players return if UK wins this title?  We’ll never know.


April 14th, 2014: Barry “Slice” Rohrssen hired as UK’s newest assistant coach.

April 14th, 2014: Cauley-Stein announces decision to return for junior season.

April 23rd, 2014: Johnson announced he will return for sophomore season.


April 24th, 2014: Poythress announces he will return for junior season.

April 25th, 2014: Aaron and Andrew Harrison announced decision to return for sophomore season.

June 5th, 2014: Calipari signs contract extension with Kentucky, ending speculation about possible move to Cleveland Cavs.
