BTI’s Rants and Ramblings: How Many Wins Do You Want More Than Louisville in 2016?

No matter how good or bad we are or how good or bad UL is, the game against the Cards will certainly be the week of the most passion.  And no matter what the situation is, some consider that the biggest game of the football schedule every year.  But not me.  There are certainly some years where that is the case, but that is usually when both teams are pretty good, which doesn’t actually happen very often.  But I would much rather win 4-5 games in the SEC and accept a loss to Louisville than put that non-conference game as the most important.

Below I rank the 12 games on the scheduled based on the ones that I have the most passion in winning this year.  Doesn’t mean it’s likely we win some of these games, but simply is a ranking of which games I would be most excited about winning in 2016:

1: at Alabama: would be the biggest upset in UK history and probably the 2nd most significant win in school history, only beating Oklahoma in the Sugar Bowl being higher

2: at Florida: at this point I would take ending this streak over beating UL every single year

3: at Louisville: if this was at Commonwealth, I’d take Tennessee over this but beating UL at Papa John’s is so sweet

4: at Tennessee: hasn’t been this good of a Vols team in quite a long time, would be amazing to beat them in Neyland

5: Mississippi State: as much as we think the Bulldogs are at “our level”, they’ve actually won big games, need to beat them at home

6: at Missouri: this is that tricky road game UK has enough talent to win but historically does not

7: Southern Miss: getting off to a good start could make or break how the fans feel about this team

8: Georgia: UK actually normally plays pretty good against UGA and it’s at home

9: Vanderbilt: wake me up when it’s over (and hopefully we’ve won)

10: South Carolina: I think it’s a trap game but UK has also had their number for 2 years and they are rebuilding big time

11: New Mexico State: Um, fun?

12: Austin Peay: the yearly paycheck game (although EKU just about ruined that last year)

So what games do you want to see UK win the most this year?  Is it the games that are winnable and can get us to a bowl?  Is it the games against the best teams?  Or is it always Louisville and nobody else?  Give me your thoughts…….

Louisville is basically irrelevant. Kentucky Football’s near term goal should be to be a competitive force in the SEC. For too many years fans have thought beating Louisville and getting to go to a crappy bowl game means something. It doesn’t. Barely being bowl eligible and getting a bid to bowls real football schools would turn down just because UK fans travel anywhere isn’t success in my opinion.

I see beating Louisville at the Papa John’s Toilet Bowl as a fantastic win, even if not that relevant in the big picture. I also think a few of the 6-12 games as ranked by BTI could be shuffled in rank of importance.

My list looks more like this:

    1: at Alabama

    2: at Florida

    3: at Tennessee
    4: at Louisville

    5: Mississippi State

    6: Georgia
    7: Southern Miss
    8: South Carolina

    9: Vanderbilt
    10:at Missouri
    11: New Mexico State

    12: Austin Peay

Just my view, SEC wins mean more than others, but the Loserville game would be sweet!

I have to agree. I’m at the point where I’d much rather beat Tennessee. I’d almost rank USC Missou and Vandy in front of them as well, just because how important it is to stay ahead of them if we want to ever become a team that’s taken seriously.

Gotta be S. Miss. Beat em and beat em bad and the rest takes care of themselves. A confidence game to make these guys believe they can be good.

While it is great to win the ul game, it has never been all that important to me. I have always felt that the people who get the most out of the UL/UK game are those people who live in Lexington and Louisville. I just feel like the ul game does not matter that much to the rest of the UK fan base.

It’s not that Louisville is necessarily the most important game on the schedule, it’s just the fact that a loss to them would sour every positive aspect this season might bring.
I could handle a 30 point loss to Alabama much easier than a 3 point loss to them dirty birds.

At this point we just need to beat the teams we’re supposed to. That would be 6 wins
