When looking through birthdays in UK history, I think we have arrived to probably the most star-studded triumvirate of birthdays in UK history today on June 17th. Just break this down for a second:
#1 Joe Crawford
-Crawford is a criminally undervalued UK player for several reasons. First, his 4 teams at Kentucky went to the Elite 8, 2nd round, 2nd round, and 1st round. They basically got worse each season. And Crawford wasn’t a regular in his freshman season. He took part in the Billy Gillispie era and the final years of Tubby. He also had some attitude issues early in his career that stunted his relationship with the fans. But the totality of his career is actually impressive. He is a Top 20 scorer in school history. He is 7th in 3-pointers. He played in 127 games, one of only 25 players to do so.
#2 Immanuel Quickley
-Recency bias here but his impact on this year’s team makes him one of the 15 best players of the Cal era. He’s one of those guys who only UK fans will appreciate. He falls into the Wayne Turner, Ramel Bradley, Walter McCarty kind of group. Nobody remembers them outside of this fanbase but we all know and love them. Plus his personality and fight have made him a fan favorite.
#3 Bryan the Intern
-No explanation needed.
Maybe you could go with following dates:
February 28th (Kron, Prince, Teague)
May 12th (Bogans, Grevey, Sestina)
May 26th (Davender, Casey, Harris)
July 18th (De. Anderson, Pelphrey, Adebayo)
September 6th (Wall, Poythress, Brown)
November 29th (Mashburn, Randle, Richards)
December 16th (Edwards, Feldhaus, Azuibuike)
But that would just be dumb and not facing reality. Of all the dates to celebrate UK legends on the calendar, this is the one that shines the brightest. So happy birthday to Joe and Immanuel. Hope the bright light of your birthday buddy doesn’t shine too bright on your amazing careers.
