BTI’s Rants and Ramblings: Cats Not Much Better Historically in Game After Florida

Being completely upfront with you here, but this stat is really pretty pointless.  Nonetheless, big time SEC fans love to talk about the beating you take week in and week out during an SEC schedule.  We have now faced Florida 29 straight times without a win, presumably taking a physical toll on our guys each time.  So what has the follow-up game looked like from year to year?  Below is the game directly following the Florida game and UK’s result in that game:

1987: Lost to Tennessee 24-22
1988: Lost to Tennessee 28-24
1989: Lost to Tennessee 31-10
1990: Lost to Tennessee 42-28
1991: Lost to Tennessee 16-7
1992: Beat Indiana 37-25
1993: Lost to Indiana 24-8
1994: Lost to Indiana 29-59
1995: Beat Indiana 17-10
1996: Lost to Alabama 35-7
1997: Beat Alabama 40-34
1998: Lost to Arkansas 27-20
1999: Beat Arkansas 31-20
2000: Lost to Ole Miss 36-17
2001: Lost to Ole Miss 42-31
2002: Lost to South Carolina 16-12
2003: Lost to South Carolina 27-21
2004: Lost to Ohio 28-16
2005: Lost to South Carolina 44-16
2006: Beat Central Michigan 45-38
2007: Lost to Mississippi State 31-14
2008: Beat Mississippi State 14-13
2009: Lost to Alabama 38-20
2010: Lost to Ole Miss 42-35
2011: Lost to LSU 35-7
2012: Lost to South Carolina 38-17
2013: Lost to South Carolina 35-28
2014: Beat Vanderbilt 17-7

UK is just 4-18 in SEC games following the Florida game and just 7-21 overall.  Sometimes the schedule has worked into UK’s favor, such as the 4-year stretch where they played Indiana or the games against Central Michigan and Ohio (although we lost one of those).  And sometimes it has been brutal, like playing Tennessee 5 straight times in the 1980’s or Alabama.

This year we get somewhat of an in-between game against Missouri.  Yes they are ranked and the 2-time defending East champion, but they are also vulnerable.  A shaky offense has UK actually favored in this game.  I only post this stat because I wonder what the toll of that game against Florida, both physically and mentally, will take on UK in a game that is so vital to their season.  In the past, whether it be because it was Florida or just an SEC team, the toll has seemed to be rough.

You could do that comparison to almost any team UK has lost to in modern history. Might want to find another topic.

UK has been bad in football for many, many years. I’m afraid it’s hard to find negative trends when we lose the majority of our games. However, this is 2015, and things are on the up and up!

Stoops needs to call the plays on offense and relegate Shannon Dawson to a role he had at WVU

Here is my take on the Florida loss courtesy of the LSAT.

Kentucky losing to Florida is no news.

    No news is good news.

Therefore Kentucky losing to Florida is good news

Wonder what the stats are on UK losing football games if the national anthem is sang by a barber shop quartet. Maybe they can run that article. It would be just as riveting as this diatribe. Spoiler alert: my bet is we have losing record by a large margin.

Someone has too much time on their hands wasting it on meaningless statistics.
