BTI’s Rants and Ramblings: Calipari Looks to go 10-0 in Senior Day Games

Image result for kentucky senior day

The Kentucky record book is littered with tons of historical statistics that are mind-blowing.  The 100+ game home winning streak.  The fact UK has won more SEC Tournaments than the rest of the league combined.  The All-Americans.  The titles.  The overall wins.  It is just, from top to bottom, the best college basketball program in history when taking everything into consideration.  But one stat that is truly unbelievable is UK’s success in it’s final home game of the year.  Since Adolph Rupp took over in 1931, Kentucky is an almost unfathomable 83-5 in Senior Day games.  Five losses in NINE DECADES of games.  Here are each of the coaches records:

100% – Hall: 13-0 (3-0 against ranked opponents)
100% – Calipari: 9-0 (2-0 against ranked opponents)
100% – Sutton: 3-0 (1-0 against ranked opponents)
95.1% – Rupp: 39-2 (1-0 against ranked opponents)
90.9% – Smith: 10-1 (2-1 against ranked opponents)
88.9% – Pitino: 8-1 (1-1 against ranked opponents)
50% – Gillispie: 1-1 (0-0 against ranked opponents)

In 12 of those games, UK played a ranked opponent, going 10-2 in those games.  Unlike in football, where you try and schedule an easy opponent on homecoming, Senior Day games often come against stiff competition with a lot on the line.  The SEC has also ramped up recently scheduling UK against the best in the conference on the final day of the regular season.  Yet time and again, UK has pulled out victories for the seniors.  Florida provides a tough challenge tomorrow, although UK is a comfortable favorite.  I would expect Calipari to move to 10-0 in Senior Day games with Jonny David going for 27 and 13.

BTI you in my opinion writes the best pieces on the website, I love the info that you are always sharing. I remember Cal’s first few seasons they were undefeated at home, and I can remember thinking that the whole time that Cal was here he might remain undefeated at home. But then reality set in when we lost that first time under Cal at home and I was extremely depressed. Things have been slowly going down hill ever since, but I still love my cats. Go Cats!!
