The game on Saturday in Columbia has so much on the line, both in the short term and long term. UK needs to perform better, win or lose, for fans to continue their confidence that this team has 8 wins in them. Continuing a winning streak against South Carolina, a 2nd tier SEC East team, is also key if Kentucky wants to begin to elevate themselves in the league.
In fact, the chance to beat ANY SEC team 4 or more times in a row hasn’t come across many times. Below are all of times in the last 50 YEARS where UK has beaten an SEC opponent 3 straight times or more (sorry Vandy):
(7 games) Mississippi State: 1972, 1973, 1976, 1977, 1984, 1985, 1990 (*the win in 1976 only given to UK because of forfeit)
(6 games) Vanderbilt: 1976-1981
(4 games) Vanderbilt: 1971-1974
(4 games) Vanderbilt: 1996-1999
(4 games) Vanderbilt: 2004-2007
(3 games) Vanderbilt: 1965-1967
(3 games) Vanderbilt: 1988-1990
(3 games) South Carolina: 2014-?????
The fact they have won 3 straight is an accomplishment in itself but to vault into 4 games would be something we haven’t seen outside of Vanderbilt since 1990.
