William T. Young Library is home to some of my worst memories in college. I try to avoid it at all costs, but without WiFi for another week, Willy T has been forced to become homebase for KSR.
While going through pictures and interviews from today’s media day, I was a interrupted by a sound that I first believed to be a thunderstorm. What I thought was a thunderstorm was actually the sound of a gigantic chandelier crashing to the floor of the 5th floor rotunda.
A fellow student that covers the Cats, Lyndsey Gough, was in the 2nd floor, directly beneath the rotunda. She thought it was an earthquake when the lights went out immediately.
Luckily, no one was hurt or injured. Maintenance crews were calling it an “engineering nightmare.” One person even alleged that they delayed the opening of Willy T, for fear that the piece was an unstable.
See Mom, I told you nothing good comes from hanging out at the library.
UPDATE: According to the UK Instagram account, the chandelier was taken down yesterday for maintenance, but someone clearly didn’t secure it properly once it was back up. That someone is also very lucky no one got hurt today.
