This news is a major boost to the program, as Benton is a premier shooter and an excellent defender. She already has two years of experience playing SEC basketball at Auburn and should be an impact player from opening day.
“We are so excited for Robyn,” Kentucky interim head coach Kyra Elzy said in the release. “From the first day she stepped on campus, she has worked hard to improve her game. What I have been most impressed with is Robyn and Jazmine have both elevated the intensity and competitiveness of our practices. Robyn is an explosive guard, who can not only score but is an elite defender. She is in great shape and playing at an extremely high level. I can’t wait for Big Blue Nation to see her and the rest of the team play next week.”
The status of fellow SEC transfer Jazmine Massengill, who came over from Tennessee, was not mentioned in the release.
Benton was a member of the All-SEC Freshman Team back in 2018-19 and averaged double-digits in scoring as a sophomore despite missing the first nine games of the season due to injury. Having another veteran presence with SEC experience adds an extra element to an already impressive-looking squad.
The season is only eight days away…
