I knew as soon as he said Barker and other backups would play that EKU would be pissed and play harder. Unfortunately, it may have also led to our players overlooking EKU. So lucky to get a W.

NO, I am not a troll. Let’s get that established first and out of the way!
I watched U of L beat NC State on Saturday. I then went and watched the EKU game in Commonwealth Stadium. The only relative stat would be that NCState beat EKU 35-0, although that is not the point of this post, just an interesting tidbit.
What I would like to make a point of in this post, however, is that what I saw out of Louisville’s play vs NCState is that if we’re talking like we’re wanting to chalk this one up as an “easy win”, then the next day is going to be a sad day to be a Cats fan. If we play as flat vs UL as we did vs EKU, it’ll be another UL win again this year.

    • ukjaybrat
      11:59 am October 5, 2015 Permalink

Good thing the transitive property doesn’t hold true in football. It’s all about the match-ups. Louisville played better than they have all year and we played like crap for 3.5 quarters of that game. We also had an emotional investment in the game where as Louisville had to go all out in their game otherwise the wheels would have fallen off for their season… We may or may not have looked over the trap game toward a thursday with auburn (even if we do have a bye week first)…

There are so many aspects to the comparison to put it in context. I’m not saying Louisville will be a walk in the park, but I also would not say that UL beat NCSt destroyed EKU barely lost to us is something worth worrying about for 7-8 weeks either.

All the butthurt Cal haters ever say is that even if Cal was not responsible for th43e cheating at his two former posts, he was the man in charge and MUST take responsibility for both infractions. Therefore he is a cheater. The same could be said for Pitino… but i bet they will disagree…

    • ukjaybrat
      11:11 am October 5, 2015 Permalink

No I am saying that Louisville fans will absolutely use a double standard when it comes to this.

But to answer your question more specifically. I think What Rose did was not under Cal’s control. He may or may not have cheated on his SAT, that fact was never proven. And he was not told before the season started that he would be ineligible. It wasn’t until after the season that Rose was found to be ineligible. So none of that had anything to do with Cal, that sucks.

And the in Camby situation, Cal found out what happened and turned himself in. Anyone that would cheat just to turn himself in is just dumb.

This situation isn’t somebody cheating on a test or taking money from a recruit. This is underage kids having sex and drinking “IN THE DORMS.” I don’t care if he knew or not, what happens in your players dorms *should* be your responsibility. If it happened in a dirty hotel off campus, that’s not something you can really police. But in the dorm?

I think the alumni associate would also force our AD to resign. As much as I like Cal and Barnhart, the program is bigger than any individuals. That’s what UL should do as well, stop the bleeding, work with the NCAA, take your medicine, clean up the mess, and move on with some dignity.

Topten, that is the perception of idiots with no actual proof. Pitino has been in trouble with the NCAA before, when he was an assistant at Hawaii. Pitino was personally implicated. Look it up if you don’t believe me.

Coack K, Dean Smith, and Roy Williams are all considered to be great coaches and not at all dirty, but that’s mostly because the NCAA refuses to really investigate allegations at Duke or UNC. Corey Maggette took money from a booster and Lance Thomas paid $30,000 in cash for jewelry at Duke, but nothing happened because the NCAA doesn’t want to tarnish Coach K’s image. UNC committed 18 years of mass scale academic fraud, and nothing is being done. The NCAA picks and chooses what to enforce.

they’ll say money…book deal. but Idc what they say, they don’t make any sense. When the scandal first came out it was “all schools do this, it’s not just us.” Then when the book came out this weekend, it changed to “this evidence is weak, we didn’t do it.” Hmm let’s see. You said all schools do this, but now you’re saying your school didn’t do this. So all schools do this except for the one who has a book written about it saying they do indeed do this.

Guys, after thinking about this story all weekend I actually think Pitino and Jurich both may survive this. Pitino will probably get another raise and Jurich might get a statue in his honor. Matt is talking about the “standards” in Louisville. Everything we’ve seen happen up there the last 10 years would leave you to believe that there are zero ethics. There isn’t much of a reputation to protect at this point and they pretty much made a statement that nothing matters except winning when they brought back Bobby Petrino after everything he had done.

Heck, they probably will just make an athletics department rule that all hookers need to be taken off campus and paid for in cash after this. It SOUNDS ridiculous but I think all of us that have watched this circus know there is some truth to that. I don’t think it will bother them to be a laughing stock nationally as much as losing games would. It’s sad and I kind of hope they prove me wrong but I’m not holding my breath at this point.

I’ve taught ethics at a Christian university before, and what Matt doesn’t understand is when it is taught from a purely secular perspective (such as at a state university), one man’s opinion is basically considered as good as another’s. It is taught as being subjective and relativist. That’s why an ethics professor at a state school can look at hiring Petrino as being fine.

One thing I can tell you is it 100% does NOT matter whether the recruits knew they were prostitutes or not. a violation is a violation. Not knowing it just makes you naive. The kids in this scenario won’t be punished anyway. The only thing they did was was underage drinking and basically being a john (but neither of those are relevant when it comes to statute of limitations) so the kids in this won’t be affected. other than their names being drug through the mud a little and being associated with Louisville of course.

I agree with some of the questions above. Where did the money come from?? If this did occur, more people, than the recruits knew about it, because what teenage kid could keep quiet about the “good time” he had the night before??
If this did occur, then both Pitino and Jurich need to go. They are responsible for the program.

It was never proven that Eddie Sutton was aware of UK’s issues but he had to go anyway.

Here is the telling statement in all of this:
Rick Pitino: ” I don’t think any players came here because of those women”

Not ‘those alleged women’, not ‘it just didn’t happen’, but he said they didn’t benefit from the benefits.

exactly. he didn’t say it didnt happen. he wasn’t trying to get away from the gross-ness of it. he was trying to get ahead of the infractions they could incur because of it.

I’m betting that McGee owed this lady a lot of money. She’s just collecting.
