The search for missing Madison Central senior Emanuel Prewitt has come to a tragic conclusion.

After going missing at Herrington Lake on Wednesday, June 10, the Boyle County Emergency Management Director informed LEX18 that Prewitt’s body was recovered in the lake on Tuesday.

According to initial reports last week, Prewitt was swimming in the lake with friends on Wednesday, with those with him telling authorities the 17-year-old was struggling to keep up and eventually saw him go underwater.

Since Thursday morning, rescue teams have been searching the dark 125-foot waters using drag equipment. Due to the lake’s dark waters and depth, divers were not able to explore and sonar equipment was unable to map out the area, per LEX18.

According to the report, Prewitt’s body will now be taken to Frankfort for an autopsy.

Absolutely heartbreaking news. Prayers to the Prewitt family and those involved.

That’s a tragedy. I lost two uncles at a young age to drowning. Both were teenagers, I never knew them. Prayers to the family..

I saw the wlex report and didn’t understand the whole sonar crap . I fish that lake all the time and my Humminbird fish finder with down imaging shows bushes , logs , rocks perfectly clear at greater depths than that . And mines not even top of the line . I guarantee if they had asked the local fisherman to bring their boats with state of the art sonar they would have at least 100 boats and he would have been found days ago .
