Blue Arby’s near Kentucky’s campus closes

If you’ve ever been around UK’s campus, you’ve seen the Blue Arby’s on Limestone across from campus. Built in 1994, the building has stood as an homage to the Wildcats, bucking the traditional Arby’s red for Kentucky blue…until now.

The Herald-Leader is reporting that the Blue Arby’s has closed, the second location to shutter its doors this year. Don’t worry; there are still nine Arby’s across Lexington, so plenty of places to get your curly fry fix. Given all the changes happening around Kentucky’s campus, it’s not really that surprising, and I don’t think I ever ate there, but looking at the pictures on the Herald-Leader’s website still made me a little sad.

Change happens, right?

I went there once after class. Got a beef & cheddar. Made it all the way to the house before I opened it and realized there was no meat on it. Just cheese and bread. So that’s my only experience with the blue Arby’s.

A lot of Arby’s do that. The one on Richmond Rd is managed well and makes the sandwixh look like the ads. Good people

That place was a staple for my Gatton friends and me – such easy access when in a time crunch. Sad to see it go, but it’s not like anything else is the same from when I was there in 04-08…

It is weird not seeing anything except government owned buildings. Part of the charm of UK campus was the diversity of businesses and store fronts. Gov sprall has made it more cold feeling

Did my Grad work in the Taylor Education Building and had many a curly fry from that fine establishment too. First Kennedy’s now that Arby’s. Progress…I guess.

I suspect this is all John “Why” Brown’s fault.

First, he screwed-over The Colonel and drove that biz in the ground.

Then he ran off Tolley Ho for ‘no good reason’ (some dumb cluck business).

      KFC lived; the HO lives.

      We’ll live.

I remember when I was in school they’d put their coupons in the Kentucky Kernel newspaper. The line would be out the front door. Nothing like eating a buy BOGO roast beef sandwich in between classes. RIP Blue Arby’s.

I lived a few blocks away my first time at UK (89-94), then came back for my second degree (01-04) and it was never blur up to that point. Not a very long tradition.
